Position Overview The senior property accountant works under the direction of the property accounting manager on all property accounting functions of a publicly traded hospitality REIT. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, hands-on accountant with 4+ years of experience and a control focused approach, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize and multi-task, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from an accredited university
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant accounting experience
  • Extensive account reconciliation experience
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially working with Excel spreadsheets
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with a forward thinking ‘can-do’ attitude
  • Analytical, attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multitask and a team focused approach

  • Public company experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Proactively manage communication with property managers and asset managers to ensure a thorough understanding of property financials and upcoming changes
  • Review monthly property trial balances, map general ledger accounts, and record account activity in the general ledger
  • Reconcile property trial balances to general ledger account balances.
  • Participate in the budgeting and forecasting process with responsibility for analyzing variances and providing concise explanations
  • Perform account reconciliations related to property accounting including intercompany account reconciliations
  • Prepare accounting journal entries related to non-recurring transactions and month end close
  • Execution of fixed asset accounting (GAAP and tax) including additions, disposals and depreciation
  • Review fixed asset purchases for proper capitalization and approval
  • Coordinate and reconcile with property managers fixed asset purchases account
  • Assist with quarterly tie out process of SEC filed reports
  • Increase productivity by developing automated applications, eliminating duplications, coordinating information requirements
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with GAAP
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax preparers, and other accounting and finance related professionals
  • Complete adequately designed and appropriately executed controls to comply with Section 404 (SOX) requirements
