About The Position

The Senior Property Accountant is responsible for independently preparing and reviewing financial statements for assigned apartment communities. This role also supports the development and training of the Property Accounting team, collaborates with the Development team, municipalities, and external auditors, and assists the Accounting Manager with additional responsibilities. The Senior Property Accountant reports directly to the Accounting Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Ability to consistently produce high-quality work independently and meet deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Assist Community Managers and Regional Property Managers in understanding and preventing accounting issues
  • Support Property Accountants and Accounting Assistants with daily responsibilities
  • Process property check runs
  • Review draw schedules from the Development team and support the Project Manager to ensure development accounts are accurate and contractors are paid on time
  • Perform month-end close processes
  • Prepare and review Gross Potential Rent reports prior to posting journal entries
  • Prepare and review general ledger workpapers, including balance sheet reconciliations and profit and loss analysis
  • Prepare and review monthly bank reconciliations and resolve outstanding items
  • Review work completed by Property Accountants to ensure accuracy of monthly financial statements
  • Prepare external reports
  • Prepare Replacement Reserve draws
  • Participate in the year-end audit process
  • Create fixed asset depreciation workpapers
  • Prepare net profit returns and business license applications
  • Respond to external auditor requests and gather required documentation
  • Perform other duties as needed to support departmental and organizational goals
