The Role As a Senior Project Manager, you’ll serve as the NJDOT-approved lead for complex roadway, highway, and bridge design projects—managing the full project lifecycle from preliminary design through construction completion. You’ll oversee budgets, schedules, QA/QC, NEPA coordination, stakeholder engagement, and staff mentorship, ensuring projects meet NJDOT standards and FHWA requirements. What You’ll Do Full project lifecycle oversight: Lead projects from preliminary engineering through final design, construction documentation, and construction support. NJDOT standards compliance: Apply NJDOT’s delivery process, including FD guidelines, manuals, NEPA/FHWA procedures, and QA/QC protocols. Complex technical coordination: Manage interdisciplinary teams covering roadway, bridge, drainage, geotechnical, hydraulics, utilities, MOT, ITS, traffic signal design, and ROW coordination. Budget & schedule control: Maintain overall accountability for budget, schedule, scope, and quality on multiple concurrent projects. Public involvement & stakeholder engagement: Lead public outreach efforts and serve as primary liaison with NJDOT, FHWA, municipalities, and utilities. Construction engineering support: Oversee shop drawing reviews, construction schedule monitoring, and change order plan development. Business development: Lead RFP responses and cultivate long-term client relationships. Mentorship & leadership: Develop junior staff, foster technical innovation, and contribute to agency leadership. What You Bring Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (ABET-accredited). Licensure: Active New Jersey Professional Engineer (or comity eligible). Experience: 10+ years in transportation design, including at least one major NJDOT project from preliminary engineering through construction within the past 15 years. NEPA Exposure: Demonstrated experience working within FHWA’s NEPA process. Technical proficiency: MicroStation with InRoads/OpenRoads; 3D corridor modeling; BIM; deep familiarity with NJDOT standards and manuals.
