The Steel Senior Project Manager is the primary company representative responsible for the overall direction, completion, and financial success of structural steel projects. This individual oversees the project team and leads all activities related to contract administration, change orders, submittals, procurement, scheduling, financial projections, and closeout. The role ensures projects are delivered safely, profitably, on time, and to the highest standards of quality. The Steel Senior Project Manager maintains a strong focus on customer satisfaction, exceeding expectations, and building long-term relationships. Multiple project oversight may be required.

  • Project Financial Responsibilities
  • Creates and manages project budgets, including GMPs or Lump Sum proposals.
  • Understands and enforces all owner contract requirements, including bonds, fees, notifications, schedules, reporting, and costs.
  • Completes accurate and timely monthly projected final cost reports.
  • Proactively manages project risk by ensuring all contracts, insurance, notices, and subcontractor prequalifications are in compliance with Steelworks’ standards.
  • Preconstruction Services
  • Partners with preconstruction teams to prepare, review, and monitor all cost-related information, including general conditions, contingencies, and estimates.
  • Takes ownership of the accuracy and quality of budget estimates provided to clients.
  • Manages the subcontracting process, including scope review meetings, pricing, contract scope development, and final execution.
  • Project Start-up and Scheduling
  • Leads project start-up meetings to ensure smooth handoff from preconstruction to operations.
  • Collaborates with operations managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and suppliers to create and manage comprehensive construction schedules.
  • Develops project responsibilities matrix and coordinates resources (personnel, equipment, and materials) to ensure success.
  • Reviews contract documents with all project stakeholders to ensure compliance and alignment.
  • Ensures subcontractors and suppliers meet all schedule requirements.
  • Project Administration, Operations, and Close-out
  • May manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Leads day-to-day project administration and operations, including weekly team meetings for alignment and accountability.
  • Develops, maintains, and communicates project schedules, milestone tracking, and closeout plans.
  • Ensures all site meetings (planning, progress, and closeout) are conducted effectively, with accurate minutes and follow-up.
  • Monitors project progress, cost, and quality to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and Steelworks standards.
  • Analyzes subcontractor change proposals for accuracy, delay impact, and scope, coordinating with leadership as required.
  • Manages project closeout, including financial settlement, demobilization, and client handoff.
  • Oversees project safety compliance and ensures a culture of safety on every job site.
  • Builds and maintains communication with suppliers and key partners to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
  • Protects company and project assets, maintaining a safe and respectful working environment at all times.
  • Promote Customer Relations
  • Builds strong relationships with customers, design teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to support Steelworks’ core values and exceed expectations.
  • Actively represents Steelworks in industry, client, and community events to enhance company image.
  • Identifies and pursues opportunities for new business through project relationships.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred. Equivalent field experience may be considered.
  • 6–10 years of progressive leadership experience in construction, with a strong preference for structural steel or industrial projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management software (e.g., Procore, CMiC, or similar).
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Preconstruction experience (1–2 years) preferred.
