As NASA’s largest engineering solutions provider working together with NASA at centers across the United States. We are seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Project Manager to support NASA's Portable Life Support System (PLSS) team under the JETS contract. This role focuses on providing technical insight, technical oversight, and proactive risk management for complex spaceflight hardware development efforts. The ideal candidate will guide multidisciplinary teams, ensure alignment with NASA's technical and programmatic goals, and drive successful project outcomes through informed decision-making and continuous risk assessment The Senior Project Manager will: Provide high-level oversight and technical insight into the development of complex spaceflight hardware systems. Lead risk identification, mitigation planning, and oversight of complex hardware development and testing. Evaluate project performance and provide recommendations to improve efficiency, reduce risk, and ensure mission success. Serve as a liaison between engineering teams, NASA stakeholders, and JETS management to ensure transparency, accountability, and mission alignment. Ensure and document compliance with NASA spaceflight hardware requirements, standards, and processes. Communicate project status, risks, and mitigation strategies to both JETS and NASA leadership. Provide support for budgeting, forecasting, and cost estimating activities. Monitor cost performance and ensure alignment with financial plans. Analyze financial and project data to ensure accuracy and support informed decision-making. Prepare and present project status at EC5 Branch Chief's Technical, Cost, Schedule, and Risk (TCSR) reviews. Develop and maintain internal and customer-facing financial reports, primarily for government stakeholders. Oversee the development and maintenance of procedures, work instructions, and process flows. Mentor and support early-career engineers and project team members. Perform job functions in accordance with established guidelines and instructions. Support additional duties as required.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and may be expected to have a related master’s degree and normally possess 10-15 years of related experience.
  • Prior experience with Government and internal company financial reporting, including budgeting, forecasting and cost estimating.
  • Prior experience managing and leading a team.
  • Self-motivated, team player and adaptability to a dynamic environment and the ability to complete all assignments as required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and will be expected to effectively interact with customers and management at all levels.
  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings.
  • Must have the ability to visualize and work with complex mechanical/electrical systems and work with others in problem solving as part of a team.
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures
  • Prior experience working with Space Suits or other areas of Human Spaceflight
  • Detailed knowledge of vent loop gas flow rates, pressure management, and PLSS outlet CO2 control in closed loop and open loop modes.
  • Should have detailed knowledge on xEMU selected design goals for each vent loop component. Areas of knowledge on each component should include: detailed understanding of each component's design and purpose in the overall vent loop and PLSS design, pressure capabilities, flow rates/delta pressure during flow, and functional operations.
  • Should understand previous vent loop build/manufacturing issues and testing including component checkouts and DVT/TVAC testing.
  • Should be able to describe the consequences of making various design alterations to the existing xEMU baseline design.
  • Detailed knowledge of thermal control and auxiliary thermal control loops including heat removal capabilities, pressures and flow rates, water/loop materials compatibility, issues with extended quiescent stowage.
  • Detailed knowledge of design trades that led to the selection of xEMU thermal loop component designs, detailed knowledge of hardware design, knowledge of xEMU thermal loop hardware build/manufacturing history including issues encountered and resolution, and knowledge of testing including component checkouts and PLSS level DVT/TVAC testing.
  • Should be able to describe the consequences of making various design alterations to the existing xEMU baseline design.
