Michael Baker International is seeking a visionary Senior Project Manager – Traffic Engineering to lead high-impact transportation initiatives across New Jersey and New York. Requirements

  • 20+ years of progressive experience in traffic and/or roadway design.
  • PE license in New Jersey and/or New York (required); PTOE certification (highly preferred).
  • Proven experience with NJDOT, NYSDOT, NJTA, and other regional agencies.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and team-building skills.
  • Exceptional communication abilities—written, verbal, and public speaking.
  • Demonstrated success in proposal writing, client presentations, and strategic project delivery.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Passion for innovation, quality, and financial performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a 30+ person Traffic Engineering and ITS team, coordinating with multidisciplinary staff across regional offices.
  • Manage all aspects of traffic and roadway design projects—from concept through execution—ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Oversee project teams, assign tasks, review deliverables, and provide technical guidance across highway, arterial, and local roadway projects.
  • Monitor scope changes, identify additional service needs, and manage budgets and schedules.
  • Mentor staff and foster professional development across engineering and project management disciplines.
  • Represent Michael Baker International in professional organizations, public meetings, and client engagements.
  • Drive strategic growth in emerging technologies including EV infrastructure, ITS, and connected/autonomous vehicle systems.
  • Ensure QA/QC practices across all traffic engineering work in the region.
