Our client is a respected heavy civil contractor with a strong national footprint in municipal wastewater infrastructure. They are seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead high-profile WWTP projects up to $50M in annual revenue. If you have experience managing public-sector wastewater treatment plant construction—from headworks and clarifiers to process piping, structures, and commissioning—this is an opportunity to take ownership of marquee projects in a growing Midwest market. What You’ll Do As the Senior Project Manager – WWTP, you will serve as the primary driver of project success, overseeing all phases of municipal wastewater treatment plant construction, from preconstruction through closeout.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil/Environmental Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of project management experience, with a strong preference for municipal wastewater treatment plant construction
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex WWTP scopes such as:
  • Process structures and basins
  • Mechanical and process piping
  • Concrete structures
  • Pump stations, headworks, and treatment systems
  • Strong command of project controls, estimating, scheduling, cost forecasting, and contract management
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and interface effectively with public-sector owners
  • Proficiency with construction scheduling and project management software
  • Results-driven mindset with the confidence to make decisions and lead from the front

Responsibilities

  • Lead project planning, startup, execution, and closeout for large-scale municipal WWTP projects
  • Partner closely with Preconstruction and Estimating to develop, refine, and manage project budgets, schedules, and cost reports
  • Direct subcontractor procurement, including scope development, bid reviews, negotiations, and contract execution
  • Manage and mentor project teams, including hiring key field staff and specialty subcontractors
  • Own project financial performance, including forecasting, cost control, change management, and P&L responsibility
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with municipal clients, engineers, and inspectors, ensuring expectations are exceeded
  • Drive schedule adherence, milestone achievement, and proactive risk mitigation
  • Oversee change order strategy—identifying change events, pricing work, negotiating approvals, and protecting margin
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety (HSE), quality, and regulatory requirements common to municipal wastewater projects
  • Support pre-award efforts by contributing to scope reviews, constructability input, and estimating when needed
  • Provide clear, executive-level project reporting on progress, risks, and recommended actions
