About The Position

The primary purpose of this role is day-to-day management of the engineering design team in the New Orleans Project Office through planning, design, and execution phases of the portfolio of capital mining and metallurgical process facilities projects. The Senior Project Manager Engineering - Design Team is responsible for the overall delivery of all engineering deliverables to achieve the portfolio objectives (scope and quality) within the specified timeframes and budgets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in engineering or related field, and minimum 15 years experience with the practice, systems, processes and terminology of project and construction management, OR
  • High School Diploma and 20 years experience with the practice, systems, processes and terminology of project and construction management.
  • Domestic and International travel up to 15%

Responsibilities

  • Manage the engineering design team ensuring the consistent application of codes, standards, and best practices across the portfolio of projects.
  • Direct and review the engineering activities to ensure that work quality is satisfactory and meets company objectives.
  • Develop and implement fit-for-purpose solutions to facilitate efficient and quality design for the full spectrum of projects in the portfolio ranging from small operational support to large-scale capital.
  • Establish and maintain a culture of continuous improvement through analyzing, developing, documenting, and implementing standards and best practices.
  • Ensure projects have appropriate resources to meet objectives. Regularly appraise the structure of the engineering and design team for its ability to meet short and long-term project and portfolio level objectives and implement appropriate changes.
  • Ensure engineering and design processes, systems, and software are properly setup and implemented. Coordinate quality audit verifications to ensure compliance with all relevant engineering standards and internal procedures for all design activities. Recommend and execute corrective actions as required.
  • Ensure inputs to project scope definition for the appropriate Stage Gate are firm and meet company requirements before commencing work. Review inputs to Engineering Execution Plans (EEP) and to Project Execution Plans (PEP).
  • Guide project-level engineering deliverable and task development adhering to packaging best practices. Ensure engineering budgets meet the scope and execution plan for the project.
  • Guide engineering schedule development and review outputs ensuring alignment with other engineering disciplines and overall project requirements. Review the engineering staffing plan to support the schedule.
  • Coordinate with Procurement, Construction, Commissioning, Operations, and other functional groups to develop and maintain execution alignment.
  • Contribute to project engineering risk assessments, HAZOPs, design reviews, value optimizations, and construction reviews guiding inputs. Raise safety awareness and ensure the corporate design for safety principles are applied to the project.
