About The Position

Under general direction, responsible for every aspect of construction projects from analysis and design through project completion. Is fully accountable for the success of projects as measured by user satisfaction, meeting budget and schedule requirements, fostering team spirit and motivation and preventing and resolving conflicts. Provides design implementation, technical and professional support and finance management. Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction project management or similar area of concentration or at least 7 years’ experience in the construction project management industry.
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License required.
  • Knowledge of the management principles, practices, and processes in a variety of settings and the ability to apply this knowledge to the development of innovative solutions to problems in the design and construction implementation process.
  • Extensive professional knowledge of the principles and practices of architecture, landscape architecture or civil engineering; enabling the integration of diverse technical requirements into construction projects.
  • Hands-on working knowledge and experience with computer methods and techniques to manage a construction program.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite and database software to track project details and status.
  • Understanding of construction project safety requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage the design and construction implementation process for large and complex multi-disciplinary projects within demanding time and cost constraints.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project budget.
  • Ability to identify risks and implement proactive mitigation strategies to ensure project success.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex project schedules and multiple project phases.
  • Comprehensive understanding of project delivery gained through documented education and/or experience.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to detail, to perform within deadlines, to maintain confidentiality and to manage multiple and various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team and develop concise reports.
  • Strong writing skills: ability to draft staff reports and/or memos.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite.
  • Advanced certificate(s) in various construction disciplines including, but not limited to: carpentry, masonry, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the design and implementation of large and complex construction projects.
  • Manages and coordinates all aspects of projects from inception through construction completion.
  • Provides professional management in all areas including administration, planning, scheduling and staff coordination.
  • Develops bid packages independently or in collaboration with employees, consultants, and vendors.
  • Issues bid packages for pricing.
  • Defines team roles and responsibilities. Supervises and directs team members.
  • Coordinates and oversees concurrent construction projects.
  • Serves as project liaison to public, CPD Board, staff, executives, consultants, vendors and contractors.
  • Identifies project conflicts and issues and negotiates resolutions.
  • Works with contractor to ensure compliance with federal, state and local code requirements and that required permits are obtained.
  • Evaluates performance of consultants, vendors, and contractors.
  • Reviews design for completeness, fulfillment of design objectives, and adherence to all CPD guidelines and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Performs field inspections.
  • Reviews, negotiates and submits requests for additional services and payment applications.
  • Solicits bids and conducts pre-bid meetings.
  • Reviews bids and submits recommendation for award.
  • Oversees the timely completion of the project, including close-out procedures.
  • Maintains complete and current project files, correspondence and documents.
