About The Position

The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for field and project engineering, quality control, contract administration, shop drawing and submittal review, schedule review and related support functions for Gafcon’s Project and Construction Management Team. The ideal Senior Project Engineer will take on leadership roles within the project team and be involved in strategic planning and managing more complex projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, or engineering (AEC) or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in design and/or construction experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the principals of the construction process, plan review, cost estimating, scheduling, and contract administration required.
  • Accurately interpret construction contractual documents and contract modifications to determine cost.
  • Accurately analyze situations and assist in developing cost estimates.
  • Possess proficient oral and written communication and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people with diverse backgrounds of all levels and disciplines.
  • Develop and maintain positive, cooperative, team-oriented relationships with co-workers, supervisors, managers, clients, and others in contact with the job.
  • Strong customer service skills, ability to assess customer needs, and ensure delivery/receipt of service when appropriate.
  • Efficiently and effectively handle multiple and shifting priorities.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and knowledgeable with PMIS (Unifier, Prolog, Procore, PM Web, and/or eBuilder). P6, AutoCAD and/or Revit experience is preferred.
  • As a condition of employment Gafcon PM-CM LLC will require proof of your legal ability to work in the United States and conduct a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Associate Construction Manager (CACM) certification preferred.
  • P6, AutoCAD and/or Revit experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a strong understanding of the role that Gafcon is to serve for our clients, including a thorough understanding of each project’s scope of work, contract documents including drawings, specifications, design, and construction contract(s) as well as regulatory requirements associated with each project.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and technical expertise to the project team, to resolve any issues that may arise and making critical decisions to keep the project on track.
  • Coordinate and review design drawings and specifications, update as-builts and track design changes.
  • Review submittals, log and upload submissions to the document management system and manage the document control system.
  • Manage the work of the client’s consultants including the geotechnical engineers, surveyor, sub-surface imaging, deputy inspectors, testing and special inspectors, architects, and other required consultants.
  • Coordinate development of cost estimates with the estimator. Provide technical assistance as required.
  • Coordinate/assist the bidding process including assembling bidding documents and preparing bid packages. Review and prepare responses to bid phase requests for information/clarification; prepare and issue addenda; prepare the agenda and attend the pre-bid conference and job walk; attend the bid opening and record bid results. Review bid packages, perform due diligence and prepare bid evaluation.
  • Collect all required documents from contractor after award (i.e., insurance certificates, bonds, agreement, etc.). Prepare and conduct the preconstruction conference with the contractor and key subcontractors.
  • Maintain accurate up to date project information in Project Management Information System (PMIS). Assist with maintenance of computerized project reports as required.
  • Assist with management of all projects to ensure that projects are completed in accordance with Gafcon’s standards and client expectations.
  • Change Order Management: Review entitlement, evaluate potential costs and schedule impacts, log, and track contractor-submitted change order requests and potential change orders, and provide recommendations as directed. Follow-up with contractor with missing backup information or clarifications.
  • Review contractor’s requests for Information, log, and monitor design team’s responses. Ensure that RFIs are issued with clarity and the design team responds expeditiously and appropriately.
  • Assist in the establishment of a master schedule to ensure that the project is completed within agreed upon time and cost constraints. Review contractor’s baseline schedule and provide comments. Review monthly schedule updates and comments.
  • Monitor construction progress to ensure that projects are completed in compliance with agreed upon quality standards and specifications.
  • Assist with review of contractor’s progress payment applications and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with monitoring of required field testing and inspections. Maintain logs and upload reports onto project documentation management system.
  • Assist with review and maintenance of contractor’s safety measures including barricades, fences, safety tape, signage, temporary facilities, and staging areas. Ensure the general public are within safety areas and not on the construction site.
  • Monitor contractor’s Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan Best Management Practices and dust control measures.
  • Assist with commissioning of projects with the Project Commissioning Team.
  • Coordinate project closeout, including the coordination of required training with appropriate client representatives. Review all contractor closeout submittals as required for turnover to the client. Manage warranty request from the client and coordinate necessary repair work.
  • Serve as technical expert in the project scope and provide guidance on complex technical issues.
