About The Position

We are seeking an experienced and technically driven Senior Project Engineer to provide expert-level engineering oversight across our growing portfolio of commercial, industrial, and utility-scale solar projects. In this role, you will serve as the technical authority for project engineering, ensuring our designs meet the highest standards of constructability, electrical performance, safety, and financial viability. You will bring deep solar engineering expertise, specifically on the electrical side of operations, along with the ability to lead technical reviews, validate system designs, perform capacity and performance calculations, and communicate confidently with IEs, financiers, and internal stakeholders. We are looking for someone who requires minimal technical onboarding and can immediately elevate the quality and rigor of our engineering processes. Your efforts will directly influence technical compliance and construction readiness from early design through commissioning. You will also mentor junior project engineers, guide cross-functional teams, and drive solutions to complex technical challenges across multiple concurrent projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • 7+ years of solar engineering experience, including C&I and utility-scale PV system design or technical oversight.
  • Strong command of electrical engineering principles and applicable codes (NEC utility interconnection requirements, IEEE standards, grounding, protection schemes).
  • Advanced experience reviewing PV system designs, electrical calculations, capacity studies, and energy modeling outputs (PVSyst or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated ability to work directly with IEs, financiers, and due diligence teams.
  • Proficiency in interpreting 2D electrical and mechanical drawings, 3D spatial layouts, and complex system documentation.
  • Expertise in PV components and system integration, including racking, modules, inverters, combiner boxes, transformers, and BOS.
  • Experience resolving engineering design conflicts and driving technical decisions in complex field environments.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and related engineering tools; experience with Civil 3D or other 3D modeling tools is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of site and civil constraints that affect PV design (grading, seatbacks, clearances, access).
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to present technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Procore, project management tools, and document control processes.
  • Must be comfortable walking construction sites, climbing ladders, and working in outdoor environments.

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 10/30 preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical reviewer for C&I and utility-scale solar projects, ensuring engineering packages are accurate, complete, code-compliant, and constructible.
  • Lead review of electrical single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, equipment schedule, inverter layouts, protection schemes, cable sizing, grounding, and system modeling results.
  • Conduct capacity tests, load calculations, PV system performance validations, and high-level energy modeling reviews.
  • Oversee integration between mechanical, electrical, and civil design components to ensure system functionality and alignment with site conditions.
  • Provide technical direction to internal teams, subcontractors, and external engineering partners throughout all project phases.
  • Lead comprehensive reviews of design drawings, including issued-for-bid, issued-for-construction, and as-built packages.
  • Identify constructability challenges, code issues, or performance risk, and drive the resolution process across engineering and construction teams.
  • Coordinate and track all drawing revisions, ensuring timely updates, and version control.
  • Perform advanced markup and redline reviews in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and other design tools.
  • Act as the technical point of contract for IEs and financiers to support diligence requires and communicate design assumptions.
  • Participate in engineering calls, lender reviews, and due-diligence sessions to validate design soundness and address technical questions.
  • Collaborate with procurement to evaluate equipment submittals, review vendor spec sheets, validate compatibility, and support technical negotiations.
  • Perform site walks, field validations, and constructability assessments; compare field conditions to design intentions and flag discrepancies.
  • Support QC efforts by verifying the electrical and mechanical components are installed per approved drawings, manufacturer requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Review commissioning test plans, functional test procedures, and system acceptance criteria.
  • Advise Project Managers and Program Managers to technical risks, schedule impacts, and engineering dependencies.
  • Assist EPC-as-a-Service teams during pre-construction to ensure engineering alignment with pricing assumptions and scope development.
  • Mentor junior engineers and elevate the technical proficiency of the broader project team.
