Senior Project Engineer
About The Position
The Leonardo DRS Naval Power Systems business is a trusted provider of innovative naval gas and hybrid power systems, control technology and support solutions for the U.S. Navy and navies around the world. The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for leading complex engineering projects from concept through completion, ensuring all technical efforts are delivered on time and within budget. This role serves as the technical lead, ensuring designs meet all customer specifications and requirements while balancing cost, schedule, and performance objectives. The Senior Project Engineer will collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, supply chain, program management, and customers, and will contribute significantly to proposal development and project planning. Additionally, this role will provide mentorship to junior engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering with a minimum of 7 years of experience
- Mastery of technologies and domain knowledge
- Expected to have knowledge and experience in multiple engineering disciplines
- Ability to independently lead a team of engineers to complete a complex project or projects
- U.S. Citizenship required. This position may require an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for leading all engineering efforts for a complex project or projects on time and budget
- Ensure design compliance with all project requirements
- Review customer specifications and requirements, and lead a project team to develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable
- Provide budget, cost and schedule input for design assignments
- Communicate clearly with manufacturing, supply chain, program management and the customer as required
- Participate heavily in preparation of the more complex and significant proposals
- Interact with technical management, other professionals, technicians and support personnel to coordinate, recommend and confer regarding technical activities and progress
- Lead a project team or teams as assigned
- Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings
- Mentor and coach less experienced engineers
