We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer in our Aircraft Systems group in San Diego, CA. Under general directions with limited review, this position is responsible for technical and project leadership with a focus on system design and payload integration. With limited direction, this position exercises considerable latitude for initiating and developing designs, procedures, techniques and solution to resolving advanced technical engineering problems. Assignments are normally outlined in terms of broad specifications, objectives, possible results anticipated and critical reference points requiring special attention. Guides the successful resolution of engineering problems, serves as a consulting resource of engineering knowledge, and may function in a project leadership role. Documents findings, communicates results to engineering staff, makes technical presentations, and may represent the organization as the prime technical contact. Provides direction to design or technical staff and may lead a team of moderately experienced professional staff. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide systems engineering and technical management for the development, fabrication, testing, integration, and maintenance of new or existing systems on GA-ASI, Unmanned Air Systems (UAS). Determines the technical objectives for solution(s) to advanced technical engineering problems. Perform system analysis, generate requirements, and develop system architecture and designs. Direct activities of design or technical staff and lead a team of moderately experienced professional staff. Provide expert guidance on conflicting design/development requirements, difficult coordination requirements, and special material requirements. Support the development of test plans and manage the integration, verification and validation of systems through flight test. Perform hands-on troubleshooting in a test environment. Assess technical scope and develop plans, estimates, and schedules and execute programs in accordance with those plans. Coordinate and interface with customers, contractors, and engineering groups assigned to projects. Represent the organization as the prime technical contact to customers and/or government regulatory agencies. Additional duties include the development and presentation of technical material for review; presentation of reports at engineering meetings, participation in program reviews and consultation on problems.
