About The Position

RK&K is currently hiring an experienced Senior Structures Engineer to join our team in Florida. As a member of our Structures team at RK&K you will focus on leading a variety of dynamic structural pursuits and projects as it relates to transportation. You should have state (Florida/FDOT) and municipal experience, be highly proactive, able to develop creative technical solutions, have a strong understanding of structural operations and hands-on experience with bridge design and field operations. Essential Functions Serve as a hands-on, project based, Structures Engineer for Florida Transportation Alternative Delivery projects providing structures design leadership, technical expertise, and structures design production and oversight. While the focus is on Alternative Delivery, you will also participate on non-alternative delivery projects. Provide active coordination with other engineering disciplines across multiple offices in a team environment. Promote the development and professional growth of RK&K's Florida structures staff, particularly with respect to design-build. Provide Senior level structural expertise on alternative delivery project aspects associated with conceptual engineering, detailed engineering designs, and preparation of contract documents for construction followed by construction administration with respect to the structural aspects of the project Produce construction documents, specifications, and construction cost estimates Facilitate internal and client meetings, presentations and approval of plans  Serve as liaison between client and firm QA/QC for completeness and accuracy of design work Provide engineering judgment and initiative within the Structural Engineering field Train, and mentor entry level and junior level structural engineers

Requirements

  • 7 years of progressive transportation engineering experience in Structural Design
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Structural Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Florida required
  • Familiarity with applying industry standards including FDOT Standards, AASHTO LRFD, etc.
  • Design Build or Alternative Delivery Experience as Key Staff for Structures Designer on contractor-led teams
  • Ability to adhere to strict QA/QC requirements
  • Multi-tasking, Innovative/Creative thinker and problem solver in a fast paced, team environment.
  • Previous experience working with FDOT, local municipalities and counties

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as Structures Engineer on contractor-led teams for Florida Design Build Transportation projects (FDOT, FTE, CFX, etc), including Engineer of Record for Structural Discipline
  • Wide variety of structural design experience including new and rehabilitated bridges, retaining walls, and misc. other structures on variety of types of crossings (roadway, water, interchange, etc).
  • Ability to assist RK&K with qualifying for FDOT qualification Major Bridge Design - Concrete, specifically, the design of spliced prestressed I-Girders and/or Cast-in-Place, Post-Tensioned Girders
  • Experience coordinating or participating with the Design Team and Contractor during Alternative Delivery pursuits and project execution.
  • Experience assisting Preparation of Design-Build Statement of Qualifications, Technical Proposal and Price Proposals including developing quantities.
