About The Position

As Senior Project Engineer, you'll be part of our Tools & Outdoor team and will be working as a hybrid employee. Join the Electrification & Advanced Technology team to lead the design, development, and validation of advanced motor control systems for power tools and outdoor equipment. You'll focus on motion control algorithms, electric motor control, model-based design, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing to ensure high performance, safety, and reliability.

Requirements

  • Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • 5+ years' experience in motor control design and embedded firmware development.
  • Strong knowledge of advanced motor control algorithms.
  • Proficient in MATLAB/Simulink and embedded C/C++.
  • Experience with HIL/SIL testing and data analysis.
  • Understanding of power converter topologies and motor parameter identification.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple motor control projects.
  • Skilled in using test equipment such as oscilloscopes and software tools.
  • Must be willing and eligible to work onsite in Towson, MD.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with embedded C and classical motor control theory.
  • Familiarity with real-time simulation and model-based programming.
  • Familiarity with motor control hardware.
  • Exposure to product release and specification processes.
  • Knowledge of electromagnetic motor design is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement speed/torque control algorithms for brushless DC motors, including Sensorless field-oriented control.
  • Develop and validate motor control strategies for dynamic load conditions.
  • Use MATLAB/Simulink and model-based tools for simulation and optimization.
  • Plan and execute HIL and SIL tests to verify system performance.
  • Analyze test data to optimize algorithms and resolve technical issues.
  • Create embedded control software (C/C++) for ARM Core microcontrollers using MATLAB/Simulink Model.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including specifications and validation reports.
  • Collaborate with firmware teams to integrate control algorithms.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and contribute to technical improvements.
