At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin’s vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth. Job Overview: We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Project Engineer to lead the development and design-reuse of hardware components—including valves, actuators, quick disconnects, regulators, and sealing components—across multiple system applications. This role interfaces directly with system owners, cross-functional engineering teams, and senior leadership to ensure the successful delivery of complex hardware projects from initial concept through final delivery. The ideal candidate has in-depth expertise in the full hardware development lifecycle, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a strong determination to meet project schedules without accepting delays.

  • Collaborate with system owners to identify and implement opportunities for reusing existing hardware designs across new applications, focusing on valves, actuators, regulators, quick disconnects, and sealing components.
  • Lead the development of comprehensive project plans, including defining project scopes, schedules with clear milestones, budgets, and resource allocations.
  • Drive the cross-functional execution of project plans, ensuring alignment across engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and other relevant teams.
  • Proactively monitor project progress, provide regular status reports to stakeholders, and highlight risks or deviations from the plan.
  • Escalate conflicts, risks, and project issues to organizational leadership, providing data-driven recommendations for resolution.
  • Apply deep understanding of the hardware development lifecycle—concept, design, validation, and delivery—to identify potential pitfalls and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Consistently advocate for adherence to project timelines and robust project management practices, discouraging acceptance of schedule slippages or process breakdowns.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the project team.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the definition and implementation of best practices in hardware project management.
  • Serve as a programmatic authority on hardware development processes and approaches with timeline and progress tracking, providing guidance to engineering and leadership teams.
  • Exhibit advanced skills in risk management, conflict resolution, and change management.
  • Demonstrate leadership in process improvement initiatives and organizational learning.
  • Take on responsibility for particularly complex, high-impact projects with minimal supervision.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in hardware engineering roles, preferably with extensive involvement in valves, regulators, actuators, and sealing components.
  • Demonstrated success managing end-to-end hardware development projects, ideally in a regulated or high-reliability industry (e.g., aerospace, energy, automotive).
  • Experience developing project schedules for complete product lifecycles using MS Project and/or Primavera P6
  • Strong track record leading cross-functional teams, creating and executing detailed project plans, and delivering projects on-time and within budget.
  • In-depth understanding of hardware development lifecycle processes and common programmatic and technical pitfalls.
  • Proven ability to identify and solve complex technical and organizational problems.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • High level of initiative, with a clear bias for action and progress.
  • Experience with new product introduction (NPI) and rapid development cycle execution
  • Experience developing and managing technical product requirements
  • Experience identifying key performance indicators and developing a set of data analytics tools for tracking
  • Experience developing and managing SQL queries
  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.
  • Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
