About The Position

The Senior Project Engineer Development, Gasoline Engines will plan and execute design validation for NPD and SPD projects. They will lead engine development activity for engine programs, working with Design Engineering to resolve performance issues with the engine or sub-system. They will also lead engineering subtasks involving the development, design, fabrication, validation, and manufacture of subassemblies, systems, processes and equipment. Conceive and plan engineering subtasks to explore product or process problems; defines and selects new concepts and approaches to the design or development of new or improved products or processes. Additionally, they will ensure appropriate test methods are applied to all product development activities and that testing outputs align with divisional product plans and engineering goals. Identify the need for and specify new test systems in accordance with new product development technical requirements and schedules.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • 4+ years of work experience in a technical and complex industry of manufacturing components and systems.
  • Experience with testing and troubleshooting engine components and subsystems
  • Training in a problem-solving methodology, e.g. Shainin, Six Sima
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without requiring sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive system and complete engine test plans for multiple new product engine programs.
  • Execute the completion of these test plans
  • Develop specialized tests that enable sound decision making in the process of developing an engine or a subsystem for an engine. Examples of such tests would be design of experiments and accelerated tests.
  • Support tests with active involvement during setup, operation and data analysis to ensure proper implementation of specified testing. At completion of tests, prepare summary documentation including conclusions and recommendations.
  • Communicate results with Design Engineers, working together to resolve issues and/or advance the development to the next stage.
  • Gain working knowledge of a variety of engine development tools including combustion analysis equipment, dynamometer equipment, exhaust emissions equipment, NVH (i.e. shaker table), flow bench for induction components, thermal measurement equipment and specialized equipment created by Kohler.
  • Identify and specify efficiency enhancements to existing test systems.
  • Ensure test procedures and lab related ISO procedures are maintained and used properly.
  • Maintain project records, prepare technical, cost and other reports as requested to document progress and results achieved.
  • Make appropriate decisions, including risk analysis, using decision support tools, critical thinking, developing support data, and being mindful of business impact of changes.
  • Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers, by demonstrating the capacity to understand design principles, the business, and product functionality.
  • Keep abreast and aware of state-of-the-art and important events in areas relevant to engine design and development through publications, outside contacts, meetings, tradeshows, seminars and short courses.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to convey information to project team(s) and management.
  • Work to develop individual goals / objectives to support the department goals through the Rehlko performance management process.
  • Receives general direction, exercises considerable discretion as to personal work details with other technical personnel.
  • Personally demonstrate and drive the Rehlko Core Competencies.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable product compliance requirements including but not limited to the Clean Air Act, California Code of Regulations and California Health and Safety Code.
