The Senior Project Architect works closely with Project Managers to execute project plans, oversee design and technical delivery, and mentor less experienced staff. Senior PAs tend to work on MA’s largest and most complex projects, balancing design sensitivity with technical expertise. They are trusted to manage client and consultant coordination, provide oversight of documentation, and serve as the primary point of contact for contractors during construction. In addition, Senior PAs may bring specialized expertise in areas such as QA/QC, accessibility, or other technical domains that strengthen the project team and elevate the firm’s capabilities.

Requirements

Professional degree in Architecture.
Architectural license required.
10+ years of related professional experience
Proficiency in 3D modeling using Revit, Rhino, AutoCAD, and SketchUp
Strong skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), MS Office, Bluebeam.

Responsibilities

Champion MA’s core values in all aspects of work and leadership.
Effectively lead project teams, ensuring collaboration across Planning, Architecture, Interiors, Art, consultants, and contractors.
Confidently communicate technical and design solutions in internal reviews and client presentations.
Model strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills; mentor and support less experienced colleagues.
Continually assess and improve skills, efficiency, and areas for continued growth.
Collaborate on overall design concepts and carry forward established design direction.
Maintain a strong understanding of the MA Project Road Map, Deliverables by Phase, Responsibility Matrix, project contract, scope, and budget.
Work with the Project Manager to understand project schedules and deliverables, then develop daily and weekly assignments for project staff, ensuring consistent progress toward project goals.
Prepare detailed mock-up (cartoon) sets and guide the team in executing their portions of the work.
Establish recurring staff, client, and consultant meetings; assist with agendas, minutes, and tracking action items.
Mentor, motivate, and provide guidance to less experienced colleagues.
Provide regular project updates to Directors and leadership.
Lead consultant coordination and foster cross-discipline communication.
Serve as a secondary client contact, managing expectations and ensuring satisfaction.
Act as primary point of contact for contractor communication, RFIs, submittals, and correspondence.
Maintain awareness of contractor contract responsibilities; coordinate with PM on all signed/sealed documents.
Oversee project documentation for all phases, including models, renderings, and technical drawings.
Create and maintain the Drawing List and Cartoon Set to organize and track deliverables.
Monitor compliance with building codes and accessibility requirements.
Research and select appropriate materials and products.
Develop project-specific construction details and ensure technical accuracy.
Work with specifications writer to prepare and review comprehensive specifications.
Coordinate consultant deliverables and review sets before release at each project phase.
Supervise and review team members’ work for quality and accuracy.
Comply with MA Presentation Standards, Project Checklists, and QA/QC protocols.
Schedule QA/QC reviews (including BIM audits) per the MA Project Road Map; ensure consultant sets are reviewed and coordinated prior to release.
Maintain archiving protocols and standard file organization.
Maintain a strong understanding of local building codes and accessibility requirements.
Participate in onsite OAC meetings as required.
Review and log submittals and RFIs for compliance with design intent.
Conduct site observations and prepare field reports.
Prepare and track punch lists.
Serve as the primary point of contact for general contractors.
