About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Accountant with a strong background in the Government Contracting (GovCon) environment. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in project setup, billing, revenue recognition, and contract compliance, along with hands-on experience using Unanet or Deltek.This role will support multiple federal contracts and work closely with Program Managers, Contracts, and Finance leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with FAR/DFARS regulations, and timely invoicing. This position is on a hybrid telecommute model out of our Reston, VA location.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of project accounting experience in the GovCon industry
  • Hands-on experience with Unanet or Deltek
  • Strong understanding of FAR, DFARS, and government billing requirements
  • Experience with WAWF or other federal invoicing platforms
  • Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, financial analysis)
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a remote environment
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
  • Clear communication skills across finance and operations teams
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting
  • High level of organization and accountability

Responsibilities

  • Manage full lifecycle project accounting for a portfolio of government contracts (CPFF, T&M, FFP, IDIQ, etc.)
  • Set up new projects/contracts in Unanet, ensuring alignment with contract terms and funding
  • Monitor contract funding, ceilings, and burn rates; proactively notify stakeholders of variances
  • Prepare and submit accurate customer invoices (including WAWF/IPPS-A/agency-specific portals as applicable)
  • Ensure revenue recognition complies with GAAP and contract terms
  • Perform monthly revenue accruals, journal entries, and project reconciliations
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes
  • Reconcile billed vs. funded amounts and maintain contract documentation
  • Assist with DCAA audits and provide documentation support as required
  • Partner with Program Managers to review project financial performance and forecasts
  • Ensure compliance with FAR, CAS (if applicable), and company policies
