About The Position

This position is responsible for the efficient and accurate processing of recyclable materials, including CRV beverages, e-waste, waste tires, used oil, and used mattresses collected from our buy-back programs, routes, and special collection events. Senior Program Specialists must be knowledgeable about and adhere to SCC safety and operational rules and procedures, as well as relevant state regulations. Additionally, they should be willing and able to mentor and collaborate with team members, encouraging their professional growth. The ability to work evenings and weekends is required for this position. SCOPE OF WORK: This position aims to provide efficient and accurate processing of recyclable material (CRV Beverage, E-waste, Waste Tires, Used Oil, and Used Mattresses) being collected from our buy-backs, routes, and special collection events. Senior Program Specialists must be well-versed and follow SCC safety and operational rules and procedures, as well as internal and external state regulations. Also, they must have the willingness and ability to mentor and professionally work alongside corpmembers to promote and inspire them to grow.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect trucks prior to beginning routes to ensure safe operating conditions
  • Drive trucks, following established routes, through residential streets or alleys or through business or industrial areas.
  • Operate equipment that compresses collected refuse
  • Drop off recyclable materials at Legacy Processing Facility
  • Dismount from collection trucks to collect recyclables (Beverage Containers & E-waste) and remount trucks to ride to the next collection point within incorporated and unincorporated areas and the US Forest and National Park
  • Communicate with Asst. Director or Program Coordinator concerning delays, unsafe sites, accidents, equipment breakdowns, or other maintenance problems.
  • Clean trucks or flatbeds after routes have been completed
  • Make special pickups of recyclable materials, such as E-waste, Used Oil, Waste Tires or Beverage Containers.
  • Move freight, stock, or other materials to and from storage or production areas, collection vehicles, trailers, or containers, by hand or using trucks, tractors, or other equipment.
  • Install protective devices, such as bracing, padding, or strapping, to prevent shifting or damage to items being transported.
  • Ability to weatherize and open and close a campsite
  • Sort materials, such as E-waste, Waste Tires, and CRV Aluminum, plastic, and glass from garbage, into appropriate containers for recycling.
  • Clean recycling yard by sweeping, raking, picking up broken glass and loose paper debris, or moving barrels and bins.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, power lifts, or front-end loaders to load bales, bundles, or other heavy items onto trucks for shipping to smelters or other recycled materials processing facilities.
  • Clean, inspect, or lubricate recyclable collection equipment or perform routine maintenance or minor repairs on recycling equipment, such as densifiers, balers, weight scales, and processing line belt.
  • Deposit recoverable materials into chutes or place materials on conveyor belts.
  • Operate balers to compress recyclable materials into bundles or bales.
  • Sort and track materials, such as CRV Beverage Containers (Aluminum, plastic, and glass), E-Waste, Waste Tires, and Mattresses, according to recycling requirements.
  • Record logs of recycled materials as required by SCC-CSET, CalRecycle, and DTSC requirements.
  • Collect recyclable materials (CRV Beverage Containers and E-waste) from curbside for delivery to designated facilities.
  • Operate automated refuse or manual recycling collection vehicles.
  • Sort cargo before loading and shipping to the processor and recycler.
  • Carry out general yard duties, such as performing sheering mowing, and weed whacking.
  • Wash out recycling containers or storage areas.
  • Work non-traditional days and hours
  • Move levers or controls that operate lifting devices, such as forklifts, lift beams with swivel-hooks, hoists, or elevating platforms, to load, unload, transport, or stack material.
  • Move controls to drive gasoline- or electric-powered trucks, cars, or tractors and transport materials between loading, processing, and storage areas.
  • Manually or mechanically load or unload materials (CRV Beverage containers, E-waste, and Mattresses) from pallets, skids, platforms, cars, lifting devices, or other transport vehicles.
  • Position lifting devices under, over, or around loaded pallets, recycling bins, or boxes, and secure material or products for transport to designated areas.
  • Inspect product load (E-waste, CRV Beverage Containers, or Mattresses) for accuracy and safely move it around the warehouse or facility to ensure timely and complete processing.
  • Weigh materials or products and record weight or other production data on tags or labels as required by SCC-CSET, CalRecycle or DTSC.
  • Operate or tend automatic stacking, loading, packaging, or cutting machines.
  • Attach slings, hooks, or other devices to lift cargo and guide loads.
  • Maintain equipment storage areas to ensure that inventory is protected.
  • Adjust controls to guide, position, or move equipment, such as collection bins and E-waste .
  • Guide loads being lifted to prevent swinging.
  • Payout by cash, for the CRV Beverage material.
  • Answer customers' questions, and provide information on procedures or policies in accordance with SCC-CSET and CalRecycle policies and regulations.
  • Issue receipts or change due to customers accurately.
  • Greet customers who bring CRV or other material to a SCC-CSET establishment.
  • Mentor Corpsmember and assist in providing on-the-job training
  • Assist customers by providing information and resolving their complaints as they relate to a buy-back.
  • Maintain clean and orderly checkout areas, and complete other general cleaning duties, such as sweeping floors and emptying trash cans.
  • Ensure that all opening and closing processing is being completed on a daily basis in accordance to SCC-CSET and CalRecycle policies and regulations.
  • Weigh items sold by weight to determine prices.
  • Sort and weigh and track all incoming CRV Beverage Material on a daily basis via internal tracking logs to ensure that material is properly tagged for shipping.
  • Complete shipping log when shipping to ensure that material is properly accounted for at our internal facility, as well as our recycling processor.
  • Ensure to properly alert the chain of command when material is not reconciling based on total sales when doing daily weight-in and when shipping and processing material at our recycling processor.
  • Assist with duties in other areas of the facility, such as monitoring the processing facility and assisting colleagues and Corpsmembers with other assignments.
  • Count money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change.
  • Calculate total payments received during a time period, and reconcile this with total sales.
  • Keep periodic balance sheets of amounts and numbers of transactions.
  • Compute and record totals of transactions.
  • Sort, count, and wrap and/or unwrap currency and coins.
  • Compile and maintain non-monetary weigh and customer reports and records.
  • Help build rapport each time he/she meets with a new Corpsmember
  • Ask open-ended "how" and "what" questions to a Corpsmember working alongside him/her
  • Challenge and/or encourage a Corpsmember depending on what the situation requires
  • Offer opportunities to problem solve and exchange ideas
  • Provides feedback that is honest, open, and positive
  • Takes a genuine interest in helping the Corpsmember succeed
  • Present opportunities and options to Corpsmembers that they may not have recognized on their own
  • Provides guidance and options to the best of his/her knowledge that help the Corpsmember reach their goals
  • Mentors and serves as a role model for the Corpmembers and other staff.
  • Ability to deal with Corpmembers in a calm, professional, friendly, and patient manner.
