About The Position

The Senior Program Officer for K-12 Education at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will play a pivotal role in advancing the Foundation's mission to ensure equitable educational opportunities for all students in the United States. This position is focused on research and development aimed at enhancing teaching practices and educational technologies, particularly in mathematics. The Foundation is committed to addressing the disparities in educational outcomes based on race, ethnicity, and income, and this role will be instrumental in driving initiatives that support Black and Latino students and those from low-income backgrounds. In this role, the Senior Program Officer will strategically develop and manage a portfolio of investments that improve the quality of math education and professional learning solutions for teachers. This includes conducting research to identify promising insights that can enhance teaching effectiveness and student engagement in mathematics. The officer will also be responsible for translating research findings into commercially viable solutions that can be implemented in educational settings. This involves leading a portfolio of grants and contracts, requiring strong investment management, monitoring, and evaluation skills. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including other philanthropic organizations, educational institutions, and product developers. The Senior Program Officer will engage in partnerships to leverage advances in artificial intelligence and ensure that equity, ethics, privacy, and bias considerations are integrated into grantmaking processes. Additionally, the officer will analyze emerging trends in education research and product innovation to identify opportunities for impactful investments. This is a 12-month limited-term employment (LTE) position, with the possibility of remote work for candidates not located in Seattle or Washington, D.C.
