About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Construction Management and Project Delivery, this role is responsible for leading the planning, design, and construction of multiple healthcare projects within an assigned capital program or master plan. The position oversees program-wide budgets, schedules, and resource allocation, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities. The incumbent provides executive-level reporting and performance updates to senior leadership, leads multidisciplinary project teams in identifying and mitigating risks, and manages consultant and contractor procurement, including RFP/RFQ processes and contract negotiations. Additionally, this role implements and maintains standardized procedures, tools, and reporting frameworks to promote consistency, efficiency, and quality across all projects.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree In Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management or other related field. 8 years of experience in construction management leadership or 5 years of experience specifically in healthcare construction management leadership may substitute for Master’s degree
  • 15 years or more Progressive experience in planning, design, management and execution of construction projects including cost and schedule oversight and vendor and client relations
  • 10 - 15 years Demonstrated team leadership including hiring and performance oversight of team members both employed and contracted
  • 5-10 years Construction project management experience in California with state and local regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHPD/HCAI) and healthcare-specific regulation (e.g., CCR Title 24 as applied to hospitals and healthcare settings)
  • 5 years Communication/liaison experience to/with senior/executive leadership on project performance, opportunities, and risks
  • Progressive leadership/management within a healthcare environment (acute care, ambulatory)
  • Deep understanding of HCAI/OSHPD processes, healthcare construction standards, and California Building Code (Title 24).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary project teams, manage consultants, and interface with executive-level healthcare leadership.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Procore, Bluebeam, and program-level reporting tools (Power BI, Excel, etc.).
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills; able to communicate complex information clearly to executives and technical teams alike.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, planning and evaluation skills.
  • Excellent organization/time management skills.
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning, design, and construction of multiple healthcare projects within a defined capital program or master plan.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the client, project managers, consultants, contractors, and key stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage program-level budgets, schedules, and resource allocation plans across multiple projects, ensuring projects are delivered on time and on budget.
  • Provide executive-level reporting, dashboards, and project performance updates to internal and external leadership.
  • Ensure full compliance with California Building Code, Title 24, and all required HCAI/OSHPD regulations for applicable projects.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks across the program portfolio.
  • Support strategic capital planning efforts, including feasibility studies and project prioritization frameworks.
  • Manage consultant and contractor procurement, including RFP/RFQ development, evaluation, selection, and contract negotiations in accordance with University and System policies.
  • Implement standardized project controls, operating procedures, and reporting structures to ensure consistency, efficiency, and quality across all projects.
  • Promote strong communication, coordination, and collaboration among project teams, hospital departments, and regulatory agencies.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within the program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
