About The Position

Responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, supervision, evaluation, and delivery of a broad range of programs within the Clubhouse focused on Academic Success, but including BGCA's other priority outcome areas of Healthy Lifestyles and Leadership & Character Development. Plan, develop and oversee implementation and supervision of assigned program departments. Provides supervision of all related program staff.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree in related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
  • Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities.
  • Will be required to have - or to obtain - CPR and First Aid Certifications.
  • Obtain public passenger endorsement.
  • Ability to get from one location in the work site(s) to other locations in and outside from the primary work site(s).
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
  • Mobility to make facility inspections. Ability to reach and bend, and push/pull or lift objects less than thirty pounds.
  • Ability to perform manipulative skills such as writing, using a keyboard and/or calculator.
  • Ability to see and read objects closely as in reading narrative or financial reports. Ability to read from a computer monitor. Ability to see objects far away as in driving.
  • Ability to hear normal sounds with background noise as in hearing using a telephone. Ability to distinguish verbal communication and communicate through speech.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Ability to maintain files, records, spread sheets and data base and to make mathematical calculations using a calculator.
  • Ability to concentrate on detail and issues with some interruption, pressure and changing priorities.
  • Memory to perform multiple and diverse tasks over long periods of time and the ability to remember information that has been read, studied or previously learned.
  • Ability to use knowledge and reasoning to solve problems.
  • Ability to work with children in a Boys & Girls Club setting with almost daily interruptions and occasional less-than-endearing tantrums by overzealous parents.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the administration of designated Clubhouse programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes.
  • Establish Clubhouse program objectives consistent with organizational goals/mission.
  • Oversee the provision of day-to-day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals.
  • Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of members.
  • Take the lead to resolve inappropriate behavior issues through discussion with members/staff involved, appropriate action steps, completion of incident reports. Notify parents at pickup as necessary.
  • Learn about members and their interests/challenges through discussion with staff and direct interaction with children and parents. Develop surveys and focus groups on how to better serve the youth the clubhouse serves and can potentially serve.
  • Update Unit Executive Director on a regular basis regarding Club incidents, challenges and ideas.
  • Establish/maintain program goals and settings that ensure the health and safety of members.
  • Maintain all standards of safety in accordance with BGCA, state, local and federal guidelines for all programs applicable.
  • Evaluate program quality on a continual basis and ensure programs/activities are addressing the diverse needs of our Club Members.
  • Control program expenditures within approved budget.
  • Coordinate the design and production of Unit's program marketing materials in coordination with Unit Executive Director.
  • Oversee proper record keeping and reporting including program satisfaction surveys, activities and events conducted, breakdowns of daily/annual participation figures and notable achievements.
  • During programs, maintain a safe, fun program area for participants, volunteers and staff.
  • Perform related After School, Summer Camp and Specialty Program administrative duties including pre-registration, phone call reminders for payment, preparation of class lesson plans and name tags, t-shirts, required equipment/ supplies and post-program evaluations.
  • Maintain relationship with parents of program participants, school liaisons and schools' transportation department personnel.
  • Ensure transportation is managed (trips, school pick-ups)
  • Supervise program specific youth development professionals and volunteers. Ensure recruitment, hiring, onboarding, management and productive/effective performance by program staff and volunteers. Conduct annual reviews of staff members. Coordinate a safe, productive plan of action if staff shortage or excess occurs.
  • Ensure staff are adhering to payroll policies and procedures. Prepare payroll and submit on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Ensure site staff understand and effectively communicate standards of program; that they ensure program areas are safe, well-ventilated and well lit; and that club equipment and supplies are maintained in good working condition.
  • Serve as supervisor of transportation.
  • Serve as designated decision-making director in Unit Executive Director's absence.
  • Maintain primary responsibility for safe, clean, functional program spaces and stimulating program areas to support Youth Development Outcomes. Jointly work with Directors and Custodian to support Front Desk and Lobby area, including Senior and Junior Staff.
  • Assist Unit Executive Director and Membership Director in coordinating marketing efforts and increased visibility of Wakeman Boys & Girls Club Programs, including attendance at PTA and community events, recruitment of program participants through fliers, mailings, social media posts, press releases, email updates, through www.wakemanclub.org and personal interaction with parents and children.
  • Provide support for the organization's special events, fundraisers and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Manage other responsibilities at discretion of Unit Executive Director.
