About The Position

WSP is currently looking for a Senior Professional, Structural Engineer to join our Transportation Group in our Raleigh, NC office! This is an exciting opportunity to provide technical design for both small and large-scale bridge projects. Come join our growing team! Your Impact Mid level position to perform professional structural engineering analysis and design of transportation structures, such as bridges and retaining walls. Typical duties may include applying high-level structural techniques for various phases of projects including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, and construction; working as part of a team of engineers to design and check bridge superstructure and substructures; develop preliminary and final plans, specifications, quantities, and cost estimates; coordinate with other disciplines, subconsultants, and Clients; and utilize OpenBridge Software Coordinate, review and provide design plans, ensuring data integrity and work is compliant with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations. Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, concepts, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, or address structural, design, and/or construction issues or opportunities. Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting. Assist with development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects. Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers. Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner Proactively collaborate with other engineers, professionals, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, local, and privately funded improvement and development projects, as well as proposal and business development opportunities. Remain current in latest structural engineering techniques and practices. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience.
  • Engineer in Training Certification; preferably in North Carolina or ability to obtain NC PE.
  • Proficient knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues.
  • Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, physics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, OpenBridge, MDX, etc.)., math principles, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • NCDOT Bridge design experience and familiarity with the latest NCDOT manuals and standards.
  • A member of and/or actively participating in local professional practice organizations.
