About The Position

IDEXX is seeking a Senior Production Manager to lead our slide consumables manufacturing operation at our Westbrook, Maine headquarters. This is a high‑impact leadership role responsible for overseeing the production of millions of consumable units annually in a regulated, multi‑shift manufacturing environment. Requirements

  • Proven experience leading medium‑ to high‑volume manufacturing operations producing millions of units annually.
  • Experience working in a multi‑shift manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of automated and manual manufacturing processes, OEE, production metrics, and operational performance management.
  • Demonstrated accountability for people leadership, productivity, and operational results.
  • Comfort partnering with Operations Finance, including understanding cost drivers, labor efficiency, and business metrics.
  • Strong capability to develop and deliver targeted operational analyses, clearly communicating performance trends, risks, and improvement opportunities to senior leaders to drive data‑driven decisions.
  • Strong execution mindset with the ability to move quickly, prioritize effectively, and avoid over‑analysis.
  • Experience in regulated manufacturing environments, such as FDA‑regulated operations, medical devices, diagnostics, aerospace, or semiconductors.
  • An engineering or scientific degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated success developing talent and preparing teams for growth, transition, or succession.
  • 5 – 7 years of supervisory or managerial experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own daily, weekly, and monthly production performance for consumable manufacturing.
  • Lead a two‑shift operation with approximately 50 team members and 2 direct‑report leaders.
  • Drive productivity, yield, quality, and cost performance, ensuring alignment with business targets.
  • Serve as the escalation point for product, process, and personnel issues, driving timely resolution.
  • Lead operations across automated and manual manufacturing processes, ensuring optimal flow and utilization.
  • Drive OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), quality standards, and customer expectations.
  • Monitor and act on daily manufacturing metrics, balancing urgency with precision and attention to detail.
  • Partner closely with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Finance to optimize production outcomes.
  • Operate effectively in a regulated manufacturing environment, with strong adherence to SOPs, documentation, and compliance expectations.
  • Support and lead readiness for regulatory and quality audits (FDA experience preferred).
  • Build a culture of continuous improvement, standard work, and operational discipline.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives that modernize workflows and increase scalability.
  • Develop and coach leaders and frontline talent, with a strong focus on succession, capability building, and engagement.
  • Prepare and present clear, concise reports and analyses summarizing operational performance, trends, risks, and improvement opportunities to peer groups and senior leadership.
  • Develop and deliver targeted analyses to highlight issues, answer operational questions, and support data‑driven decision‑making.
