About The Position

This is an advanced, senior level position that exists to maintain, repair, and fabricate parts for all production shops including Sutherlin and Northbank facilities. To be successful in this role, the Senior Maintenance Tech must show continued desire to develop their skills, perform advanced troubleshooting and repairs on all equipment at Orenco, and be proactive in eliminating the root causes of equipment downtime. We are looking for a Sr. Production Maintenance Technician, but we will consider entry level and intermediate level skilled candidates.

Requirements

  • GED or equivalent education that demonstrates ability to read with comprehension, write, and have basic mathematic skills.
  • Requires four years internal experience as a Production Maintenance Tech III, or eight years' experience in a similar position.
  • Considerable metal fabrication skills required. Cutting metal, drilling, ability to copy existing parts, steel welding, basic mill/lathe operation.
  • Highly proficient with hand and power tools.
  • Considerable knowledge of: Electrical components Creating sketches, etc. to communicate technical details to engineering and other maintenance techs.
  • Thorough knowledge of: Hydraulic systems, components, and controls Compressed air systems, gaskets, mechanical systems, pumps, seals, and pneumatic controls Hydraulic system maintenance procedures Troubleshooting techniques Comprehension of schematics and drawings
  • Demonstrates leadership skills and the ability to train and mentor tam members.
  • Basic Computer skills (Email, word processing, maintenance program)
  • Adequate reading and writing ability to perform duties of job.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • Completion of initial 8-hour Emergency Response & HW (HazWopper) Operations level training is required.
  • Completion of the annual 8-hour HazWopper-Operations Level training is required thereafter.
  • Training description: Emergency communication, alarms and evacuation routes, contingency plan implementation/emergency response procedures, emergency equipment use and inspection, incident response (fire, explosion, soil, and water contamination), and site shut down procedures.
  • Hazardous waste management - handling and storage rules.
  • Must complete Orenco Lock-Out/Tagout certification within 45 days of hire.
  • Must complete forklift certification within 45 days of hire.
  • Must complete Confined Space and Fall protection certification within 45 days of hire.
  • Avoids disruptive behaviors that negatively impact the team.
  • Requires good communication and team building skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust to priority changes with little notice and to remain calm during confrontational or high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to use sound judgement and follow-through in problem-solving and decision-making processes.
  • Must have satisfactory driving record, maintain valid driver's license, and current insurance on personal vehicle if used for business.
  • Must meet company insurability requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Continuously maintains Orenco Management's safety, cultural, and professional standards.
  • Promotes, encourages, and reinforces a positive safety culture, safe practices, and a safe work environment to all employees.
  • Independently troubleshoots equipment center failure and repairs faulty equipment.
  • Root-cause analysis to determine why equipment breakdowns occur.
  • Identify inspection and other preventive procedures to reduce downtime.
  • Create standard procedures for common maintenance repairs/inspections.
  • Complete Preventative Maintenance tickets requiring advanced skills.
  • Reports an accurate consumption of replacement parts to the repair parts management system.
  • Makes recommendations for parts to stock and identifies obsolete parts/excessive inventory.
  • Seeks out ways to reduce spare part inventories by performing minor equipment changes (with engineering approval) to standardize components.
  • Coordinates with production to schedule equipment center downtime and performs equipment center maintenance.
  • Documents work performed in Maintenance Management System.
  • Seek additional training on systems/skills as needed, identifies training opportunities for other maintenance techs.
  • Performs tasks assigned to him/her by supervisors.
  • Follows ALL Lockout/Tagout safety procedures.
  • Communicates Orenco's vision and the vision of the Equipment Maintenance department.
  • Checks with and listens to machine center operators on a daily basis for feedback on machine center performance.
  • Coordinates with production to schedule equipment center downtime for repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Keeps work area clean and free of safety hazards.
  • Attends and participates in team meetings.
  • Involves less experienced technicians in complex repairs to advance their development and training.
  • Prioritizes all tasks and department functions.
  • Assign tasks to less senior maintenance techs.
  • Creates accurate project plans on conjunction with Engineering, Tooling, and Production.
  • May be part of a mechanical/construction team on the construction, installation, or repairs to machinery and structures, working with other trades such as machinists, carpenters, electricians, etc.
  • Work to be done during manufacturing business hours, which may include an occasional early and/or later shift as needed.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.
  • Regular, consistent, and predictable attendance is required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
