About The Position

Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Production Engineer, located in Seadrift, Texas at the HP2 (High Pressure II) Plant. High Pressure 2 (HP2) is a proud part of Seadrift Operations and Packaging & Specialty Plastics (P&SP). HP2 is made up of an impressive team that operate 2 high pressure tubular reactor trains and a VPE (vulcanizable) operation. The product portfolio presents the candidate with a wonderful opportunity to make a big impact on the high margin business associated with the Wire & Cable and the High-Pressure Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) Value Centers. The Production (Run Plant Engineer) serves as a vital resource for Operations by applying technical skills to optimize plant operations, resolve plant problems, and enable safe and efficient production of low cost, quality products. This position requires conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within job discipline. The Run Plant Engineer performs routine assignments and solves standard problems using existing procedures and applies general knowledge of business developed through education or past experience.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years in industry (Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, including Co-op or Internship).
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
  • Work at heights, climbs stairs and ladders.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.
  • Work in an area with hazardous materials.
  • Stand or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment (PPE), including harnesses with a total weight capacity of 300lbs.
  • Troubleshooting: Ability to work through a systematic approach that is data driven to identify potential root causes and resolve problems efficiently. Troubleshooting equipment and quality issues.
  • Cross Functional Collaboration: Work with Peers, functional support groups (tech center, quality, maintenance, etc.) to accomplish facility goals and resolve day to day challenges associated with their processes of responsibility.
  • Project Leadership Skills: Ability to facilitate cross functionally a coordinated effort to accomplish a project. To identify steps to milestones needed to accomplish the goals of a project. Examples: Identifying the actions needed to meet an LPP standard in the facility, and leading a small team to implement the actions.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to learn basic chemistry and apply knowledge to assist in troubleshooting quality issues. Understanding of basic process technology: pumps, instrumentation, distillation, etc.
  • Prioritization: The ability to assess all of the potential areas of focus, and able to prioritize what the organization is in most of need of to meet key deadlines. Focus on urgent when needed, and also ability to be proactive for important/non-urgent activities.
  • Growth Mindset: Have the confidence to learn, grow, and develop in the role. The mindset to not fear making mistakes, and tackle challenges as a growth opportunity.
  • Mentorship: Ability to help a new engineer to develop the basic skills needed to be successful in a production engineering role.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with the operations team leveraging their problem solving skills and technical expertise.
  • Elevates and appropriately applies knowledge of the plant and technology referencing historical data and conferring with Technology Center or other subject matter experts (SMEs).
  • Ensures Most Effective Technology (MET) is understood and utilized and that process automation is used as a tool to optimize plant performance.
  • Utilizes defined MET and challenges/escalates MET application and assumptions when better solutions arise.
  • Partners with experts to perform advanced troubleshooting and improve and document operating discipline.
  • Diagnoses and documents root causes of asset utilization losses in the facility.
  • Understands why specific procedure steps and precautions are needed and keeps a strong field presence to reinforce the importance.
  • Conducts daily review of logbook and alarm history to better understand the plant operation and stay engaged with daily activities.
  • Maintains, owns, and reviews daily Key Process Indicators (KPI)/ trends to ensure optimum performance.
  • Responds urgently to plant issues and emergencies.
  • Acts as a unit technical expert during unplanned events and drives implementation of effective corrective and preventative actions.
  • Provides leadership, expertise, diagnosis, and optimization in plant Raw Material Efficiency, which may include yield or waste generation.
  • Ensures compliance with plant operating permits. Understands site integration and provides input to optimize the overall system.
