As a Senior Product Manager, Data Processing Engine, you will manage the central, highly leveraged data product at Fivetran that powers millions of data syncs each day, across hundreds of thousands of unique data connections, for over ten thousand Fivetran customers. Fivetran has long been on a mission to make access to data as simple and easy to use as electricity, and our Data Processing Engine is the core product that does that. This role has significant exposure to customers, whose unique data requirements drive the majority of the roadmap. This role also has aspects that are similar to a traditional "platform PM" role, in that you will work closely with other PMs and engineering teams to ensure that our system supports their use cases. Your most important role will be helping to steer and rationalize these requests to achieve a balance between ease of use and powerful expressiveness. You'll collaborate closely with the rest of the product management team, and with a highly engaged leadership team. If you can chart a clear course, and build alignment by bringing your stakeholders along, the potential for highly visible impact is significant! This is a full-time, hybrid position that is based out of our Oakland, CA office.

  • Deeply understand the data problems our customers are trying to solve with Fivetran from multiple aspects: schema evolution, data semantics, transformation compatibility, performance, security, and reliability
  • Use a variety of analytical skills to study these problems, including ad-hoc data analyses from relational & telemetry data, customer surveys and interviews, and first-principles reasoning
  • Collaborate with engineering and design to clearly specify solutions that artfully solve the problems your customers are facing in alignment with our product principles
  • Build and manage the data processing roadmap; set quarterly goals and track deliverables and results
  • Evangelize the success of your initiatives internally and, in collaboration with product marketing, externally
  • Heavily collaborate with colleagues across product management
  • Hold yourself accountable with release/adoption performance metrics, and report on this quarterly in the spirit of continuous improvement
  • Excellent data analytics capabilities using modern data tools - you're good with spreadsheets and SQL, but can also break out something like Pandas, NumPy, etc. when it's needed.
  • Good product design taste in data software - a strong intuition for what makes a data product tick, and how to extend it while preserving a premium product experience.
  • Recent experience managing data software products, including shipping measurable impact
  • You've run a customer facing migration project and can talk at length about what you learned from that experience
  • A technical foundation - you know about software interfaces and type systems, you can reason about the merits of row-oriented and column-oriented data storage, and you can draw a roughly accurate architecture diagram for the last system you worked on. You may not write the software that you ship, but you make sure to understand it.
