About The Position

The position is part of the Materials Product Engineering and Innovation team at NIKE, Inc., focusing on computational modeling and materials innovation to enhance Nike's footwear technology. The role involves collaboration with various teams to drive innovation projects and improve manufacturing processes, ensuring timely and successful product launches.

Requirements

• A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Polymer/Materials Science, or a related field.
• 3+ years of industry-facing experience.
• Strong understanding of mathematical and computational modeling techniques, preferably FEA or similar.
• Experience working in manufacturing settings.
• Ability to connect scientific principles with business needs.

Nice To Haves

• Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Polymer/Materials Science, or a related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on laboratory or manufacturing floor experience.
• Ability to use custom software packages for quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
• Experience with root cause failure analysis.

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate modeling tools and capabilities to shift the culture from iterative to predictive.
• Drive innovation projects towards timely successful launches by implementing existing modeling capabilities and developing new capabilities.
• Conduct materials characterization to support simulation work.
• Support failure and root cause analyses of materials related to manufacturing.
• Develop and document thorough instructions for simulation and experimental methods.
• Stay updated on the latest developments in modeling and materials science; collaborate with internal and external partners to identify new capabilities.
• Mentor and train engineers and technicians.
