About Upstart Upstart is the leading AI lending marketplace partnering with banks and credit unions to expand access to affordable credit. By leveraging Upstart's AI marketplace, Upstart-powered banks and credit unions can have higher approval rates and lower loss rates across races, ages, and genders, while simultaneously delivering the exceptional digital-first lending experience their customers demand. More than 80% of borrowers are approved instantly, with zero documentation to upload. Upstart is a digital-first company, which means that most Upstarters live and work anywhere in the United States. However, we also have offices in San Mateo, California; Columbus, Ohio; Austin, Texas; and New York City, NY (opening Summer 2026). Most Upstarters join us because they connect with our mission of enabling access to effortless credit based on true risk. If you are energized by the impact you can make at Upstart, we’d love to hear from you! The Team: Upstart’s Product Experience team brings together design, research, and content strategy to create cohesive, data-informed, and customer-centered experiences across the borrower and capital sides of our marketplace. We are a growing team building the product experience capability at Upstart, raising the bar on craft, strengthening cross-functional partnership, and shaping how disciplined, insight-driven design contributes to our business outcomes. The role sits within a cross-functional squad led by a Senior Manager overseeing B2B and B2C experiences across Servicing, Capital Marketplace, and Auto Retail. As the Senior Product Designer, Capital Marketplace , you will shape the tools and workflows that help lenders and investors onboard, integrate, deploy capital, and manage their portfolios. You’ll lead research, define strategy, and design intuitive experiences across Capital Implementation, Partner Experience, and Capital Insights. Your work will translate complex financial, operational, and compliance requirements into clear, trustworthy solutions that support strong partner relationships and scalable capital operations.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise designing for responsive web and, ideally, native mobile or tablet workflows used in operational environments.
  • Strong portfolio showing end-to-end design thinking grounded in user insight, clarity, and system-level reasoning.
  • Skilled with Figma and research tools such as Usertesting, Maze, or Lookback.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners in technical, risk, or compliance-driven domains.
  • Strong communicator who can articulate tradeoffs, share work with clarity, and build alignment across engineering, operations, and business teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing enterprise or B2B platforms, especially in fintech, capital markets, lending, or other regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with financial reporting, workflow automation, or partner lifecycle management tools.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, balance business goals and risk considerations, and design for accuracy, transparency, and trust in high-stakes environments.
  • Depth in accessibility and inclusive design, especially for complex or detail-critical workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Create user journeys, workflows, prototypes, and polished mockups that define how lenders and investors onboard, integrate, configure portfolios, and manage ongoing capital programs.
  • Lead research, discovery, and usability studies with internal teams and capital partners to understand expectations, pain points, and operational workflows across implementation, program setup, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
  • Translate complex financial, compliance, and operational requirements into intuitive experiences that support origination and loan sale execution, third-party integrations, and partner-facing tools.
  • Partner with product and engineering teams to design lender and investor interfaces that improve partner success, reduce operational burden, and strengthen transparency and trust in the platform.
  • Shape internal tools that streamline deal setup, program configuration, performance reporting, and platform scalability for Capital Insights.
  • Use qualitative and quantitative data to validate design decisions, improve accuracy and comprehension in data-heavy workflows, and increase partner confidence in Upstart’s reporting and intelligence tools.
  • Contribute to a unified design system that supports secure, consistent patterns across capital partner and internal experiences.
  • Produce clear design artifacts that drive alignment across product, engineering, operations, risk, and compliance stakeholders.
