About The Position

KCRW is a public media leader, creating and curating a unique mix of content centered around music discovery, NPR news, cultural exploration and informed public affairs. KCRW is looking for a creative and experienced producer to guide our largest podcast and national radio program Left, Right & Center.

Left Right & Center is for listeners who feel like people on the other side of the political divide are on Mars. David Greene pieces together the big picture by inviting people from the left and the right to unpack their ideological differences -- not to smooth them over -- and look at what’s truly at stake. The show offers a rare kind of clarity. It doesn’t ask you to agree. It asks you to look more closely at what’s happening and to challenge your assumptions.

LRC is poised for immense growth with existing high audience engagement and potential for a rich multiplatform approach.  We are looking for a producer with a deep passion for politics, hunger to understand perspectives different from their own, someone who is entrepreneurial and ambitious in leading a valuable brand, and an excellent writer with audio/video editing skills.

The LRC Senior Producer is a full time role reporting to the Chief Content Officer/Executive Producer and will lead daily production and development of LRC programming on all platforms.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years journalism experience including significant experience with national politics as a producer, booker, editor or reporter.
• Minimum 2 years hands-on audio and/or video editing experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with podcast and social media audience measurement.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a strong collaborative relationship with host David Greene, taking the lead in developing the show’s editorial vision, tone, and on-air excellence.
• Stay ahead of the news agenda to conceive editorial ideas that will put LRC in front of the political conversation.
• Execute a booking strategy that ensures the most compelling mix of voices from across the political spectrum, effectively prepping guests/host to draw out the best possible conversation each week.
• Use scripting and tape to maximize listener engagement with the show’s content.
• Regularly review audience metrics and work with content/audience managers to develop strategies to maximize reach.
• Develop and execute social engagement strategies, in conjunction with KCRW’s audience team.
• Manage the LRC digital properties, including Substack, writing content and engaging with the audience.
• Coordinate with KCRW’s broadcast operations department and national distribution partners.
• Manage production/publishing logistics and direct in-studio tapings, working productively and efficiently under tight deadlines.
• Occasional field and/or live event production.
• Produce promotional materials for the show on various platforms.
