About The Position

At CRB, our Process Utilities Engineers play a critical role in delivering high-impact solutions for life sciences facilities. This position may be filled at either the Lead or Senior level, depending on experience and qualifications. Both levels require strong communication skills, technical expertise, and the ability to lead and collaborate in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment. Lead Process Utilities Engineer The Lead Engineer is responsible for overseeing the process utilities discipline at the project level and managing the associated budget across projects of varying size and complexity. This role requires a deep understanding of design development and field implementation throughout all project phases. The Lead Engineer excels at coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, managing multiple complex tasks, setting priorities, and directing the work of others. They also contribute to proposal development, scheduling, and mentoring junior staff. Senior Process Utilities Engineer The Senior Engineer brings extensive experience and technical leadership to the development and implementation of process utility designs across all project phases. This role involves managing complex tasks, coordinating across disciplines, and ensuring high-quality deliverables. The Senior Engineer is a trusted resource for internal and external teams, capable of mentoring others, driving project quality, and contributing to strategic planning and execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited)
  • 10+ years of experience for Lead-level candidates
  • 15+ years of experience for Senior-level candidates
  • Experience in design firms, operating companies, or construction within the life sciences sector
  • Strong knowledge of industry regulations and local building codes

Responsibilities

  • Lead discipline design efforts and manage budgets on large, complex projects.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers on proposals, staffing plans, and schedules.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, internal teams, and external partners.
  • Conduct quality reviews of technical documents and ensure compliance with project standards.
  • Direct and mentor engineering staff across all experience levels.
  • Deliver internal training presentations to support discipline development.
  • Lead or contribute to advanced project activities, including:
  • Utility room layout and pipe routing space planning
  • Capacity planning and expansion strategy
  • Vendor package management
  • Risk assessments (e.g., HAZOPs, HCCPs)
  • 3D model reviews and coordination
  • Site walkdowns and field reporting
  • Commissioning and startup support
