About The Position

The Senior Process Piping Designer position is an exciting opportunity to join PM Group’s growing Philadelphia area team out of Conshohocken, PA. We are sharing knowledge, learning, growing, and continuing to be an integral part of supporting PM Group’s ongoing expansion in the US. Our office is executing cutting-edge projects for Pharmaceutical, Biologics and Cell & Gene Therapy, manufacturing facilities – from feasibility through to qualification – for both local and international clients. This is a senior-level career position, and we are looking for a Senior Process Piping Designer who enjoys client interaction as well as the technical aspects of the position. They will also be involved with the mentoring and development to less experienced Piping design team members. Expect project work to include all levels of design: feasibility studies, conceptual & schematic design, construction documentation, and construction administration. Project sizes will vary and will consist primarily of life science industry projects doing both existing building improvements and new construction. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline is strongly preferred
  • 10+ Years of piping design experience in a design firm setting (preferably in the Pharmaceutical, Biopharmaceutical, Cell & Gene Therapy sectors)
  • Proven experience working successfully in piping and reporting tools – Plant3D, Revit, PDMS, Navisworks, Intergraph S3D & CADWorx suite of products
  • The candidate must have complete understanding of technical principles, theories and the concepts of process piping design in the field
  • Commercially aware with the ability to undertake value engineering activities and implement new technologies to provide costs effective solutions for our clients
  • Commercially aware on project execution, control of budgets, resourcing and change control
  • Multiple office execution experience advantageous
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to prepare written specifications and contract documents is required
  • Professional approach and demeanor with a strong ethical approach to safety, quality, environmental protection and business
  • Ability to play a positive role in multi-discipline teams with a reliable, consistent and mature approach to work

Responsibilities

  • 2D and 3D process and utility piping design
  • Check all design deliverables
  • Isometric generation from process P&ID's
  • Produce and check pipe fabrication sketches, layouts, isometrics and electronic 3D models for piping and equipment in accordance with project requirements, codes, specifications and procedures
  • Stress Analysis
  • Resolve clashes in 3D models
  • Progress reporting
  • Coordinate design with other design disciplines and vendors
  • Direct and/or participate in project site visits to monitor, review and sign-off on process piping installations
  • Special projects as assigned
  • Equipment stack-up studies, pipe rack distribution design and space management
  • Set-up and chair weekly model design coordination meeting
  • Manage and interface with BIM design leads
  • Manage all Internal discipline modelling and space coordination activities
  • Monitor information flow
  • Coordinate external contractors where relevant, e.g. sprinkler and cleanroom panel contractors
  • Coordinate design reviews - both formal (with client) and informal (internal)
  • Manage the closeout of action items that were identified during the design reviews
  • Manage the closeout of clash report action items
  • Coordinate commencement and completion of checking activities
  • Manage the permit / construction deliverables per the design schedule
  • Manage reports and MTO
  • Manage changes to scope and requirements as well as communicate changes to other disciplines and Project Manager
  • Carry out design risk assessment
  • Estimate, forecast and manage man-hours and schedule for the piping discipline on projects
  • Manage design leads
  • Update resource loaders and design schedules
  • Manage progress reporting
  • Mechanical Piping experience is preferred
  • Special projects as assigned
