About The Position

QuantumScape is on a mission to transform energy storage with solid-state lithium-metal battery technology. About the team: The Cell Development team is a diverse group of scientists and engineers responsible for transitioning manufacturing processes to automated, high-volume production. The team's primary objective is to work with R&D and automation teams to develop and refine production methodologies, ensuring they are robust, repeatable, and scalable for automated manufacturing. The team prides itself on flexibility and adaptability working on the forefront of battery technology. What we need: We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support our Cell Development team. As a Senior Process Engineer you will design, validate, and optimize processes for automated production. You will collaborate with R&D and automation groups to select, integrate, and validate automated equipment. You will also identify potential bottlenecks or failure points and develop mitigation strategies, while also troubleshooting issues that may arise. A strong background in electrochemical energy storage and mechanically inclined disposition are strong assets for this role.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of batteries and relevant electrochemical metrics
  • Strong proficiency in Python, JMP, or data analysis equivalent
  • Experience in mechanical design and hands-on troubleshooting of mechanical systems
  • Proven track record of driving projects to completion with little oversight
  • Highly developed written and verbal cross-functional communication skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in in Materials Science/Chemical Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Chemistry/Physics + 5 years of experience;
  • Master's Degree + 3 years of experience or PhD is preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on research experience in device assembly from battery, semiconductor, or other high-volume/high-precision manufacturing industry

Responsibilities

  • Lead projects to develop and qualify processes for automated production
  • Navigate the continuous improvement process with automation groups to enhance tool performance and product quality
  • Collaborate with R&D teams to validate new materials or processes on existing tooling to improve cell yield and reliability
  • Identify potential process or tool failure modes and develop robust mitigation strategies
  • Take ownership of process failures and spearhead root cause analysis and corrective actions directly on the production floor
  • Present clear findings and actionable next steps to stakeholders on a routine basis
