Based at our global headquarters in Houston, TX, the Senior Process Engineer will lead process optimization projects, drive defect reduction, and support scaling and documentation of critical process steps.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related field
  • 4 years of process engineering experience
  • Experience in thin film deposition process development
  • First-level hardware troubleshooting skills for deposition equipment
  • A mechanistic understanding of how process parameters and hardware configuration affect process outcomes
  • Strong communicator with commensurate people and organization skills to ensure project execution between Operations and Engineering staff with minimal supervision
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve vexing process issues
  • Rigorous data-driven approach to analyzing engineering trials as well as production data with a quality-first mindset

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related field
  • Experience with process development on alpha-level toolsets.
  • Experience leading vacuum system commissioning, process matching, target material selection, and chamber/process tuning in high volume manufacturing environments for CVD deposition systems.
  • Deep understanding of film growth mechanisms, reaction kinetics, substrate/tool interactions, and vacuum system dynamics
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma, statistical analysis, or automation tools

Responsibilities

  • Leads development and improvement of thin-film deposition process on customized MOCVD and PVD toolsets
  • Designs and executes structured experiments (DOE) to optimize film quality, uniformity and repeatability across substrates and control.
  • Develops and owns SPC-related responses to inline monitor and end-of-line test variation.
  • Troubleshoots deposition processes related to vacuum integrity, target material feed, contamination, film stress, or adhesion.
  • Characterizes, fingerprints, and develops new monitors for thin films
  • Owns project development projects from concept through qualification and production hand-off.
  • Defines project scope success criteria and implementation timelines for new or improved PVD and MOCVD deposition processes
  • Interfaces closely with tool design, mechanical, electrical and production teams to ensure seamless integration of custom vacuum equipment into manufacturing workflows
  • Develops and maintains detailed process documentation including process recipes, run sheets, and standard operating procedures.
  • Creates and revises control plans and PFMEA focused on deposition process risks and quality control metrics.
  • Ensures compliance with relevant vacuum equipment standards and material handling requirements
  • Mentors junior engineers in vacuum technology, thin film science and process troubleshooting.
  • Supports knowledge transfer and technical training to the operations team
