About The Position

An Engineering position reporting to the Plant Manager. Primary responsibilities are monitoring and measuring process and product performance, establishing and implementing recommendations for improvements to both product and process, and ensuring optimal production of the various products produced by American Packaging.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; and 6-8 years of experience in flexible packaging, or a combination of education and experience.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
Understand and apply statistical techniques for process improvement.
Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.
Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear.
This position may require manual lifting not to exceed 50 lbs – reference your department-specific JHA (job hazard analysis) for departmental lifting restrictions.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Nice To Haves

Packaging converting experience is highly desirable.
Knowledge of testing performed in a converting operation and knowledge of statistics and the ability to apply and interpret statistics to a manufacturing situation is desired.
Project management experience or education is preferred.

Responsibilities

Participate in training, embrace concepts of and actively practice the SPOT Safety Program fundamentals to aid American Packaging Corporation’s efforts to achieve a zero-accident rate.
Analyze processes and products using statistical techniques to identify improvement opportunities, and measure process/product performance to ensure continual improvement.
Participate in the gathering of information needed to establish process conditions for new and developing products and processes. This involves observing trials/developmental orders and production runs, and communicating with manufacturing, scheduling, sales, graphics, and suppliers.
Ownership of CI projects as assigned. Lead projects, provide data and set up projects to achieve CI goals.
Organize and lead process and product improvement teams/initiatives using established project management techniques to improve product quality and process performance and lead the implementation of those improvements.
Ensure that manufacturing specifications are known, understood, and communicated.
Provide engineering expertise, as needed.
Analyze production and test data to establish consistent production results.
Utilize data to recommend design changes to correct/resolve problems and contribute to the optimization of products to the required technological specifications or end uses.
Lead Process Engineer meetings, schedule meetings, take notes for actions, and follow up with other Engineers to ensure on track before next meeting.
Train new Engineers and provide additional training to existing Engineers.
Travel to other CoEs to provide support and accountability as needed.
Provide feedback to management on employee performance and actions to improve.
Manage interns and summer help, take on the intern responsibility and ensure projects are completed and contribute to company goals.
Establish department goals, maintain Process Engineer Gemba board, and meet with management on regular basis to review and discuss next steps.
Responsibility to ensure projects are being completed and meet our company goals.
Corporate projects/goals, work with all COE’s and Corporate Engineering teams to work on company-wide goals and projects.
Travel as needed to suppliers and/or customers.
RCCA of both Customer and Internal quality findings
Ability to work with and communicate with all levels of the organization is required. This will range from hourly up to and including the operations manager.
Work schedule must be flexible to allow for attendance at trials/production during nights and/or weekends if necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned.
