About The Position

The purpose of this position is for the supervision of Probation/Parole offenders who are currently attending the New Mexico Men's Recovery Academy in Los Lunas sentenced by the Court and/or Parole Board. This position is a Senior Probation Parole Officer position in which will be responsible for coordinating supervision of offenders along with collaboration with the program. This position will also assist with ensuring offenders compliance with their programming and ensuring that the offender's parole and or probation orders and Court requirements are being met. Position will supervise high risk, high needs, high profile, and specialized-circumstance offenders following sentencing by Judicial Authorities and/or Parole Board often utilizing the Community Supervision Model. Offenders placed on Probation and/or Parole supervision by the Court and/or Parole Board.

Requirements

Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice or related field as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification and two (2) years of experience as a Probation and Parole Officer, commissioned or non-commissioned law enforcement officer, to include behavioral case management.
Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and experience in behavioral case management, commissioned or non-commissioned law enforcement, military law enforcement or as a Probation & Parole Officer totaling four (4) years, OR two (2) years as an Adult Correctional Officer, OR two (2) years in behavioral case management, OR two (2) years of probation and parole office management or administration will substitute for the required education.
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Must be a U.S. Citizen, reached the age of 18 years old, and must not have been convicted of a felony.
Must have home phone.
Willing to accept travel/geographic assignment changes.
May be required to carry a firearm, work odd hours and visit offenders' home.
Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.
Employment is subject to pre-employment and random drug tests.
Employment is conditional pending results of pre-employment drug test.
At the time of their appointment, be citizens of the United States.
At the time of their appointment, have reached the age of majority.
Be of good moral character and not have been convicted of a felony or any crime of moral turpitude in the courts of this or any other state or in the federal courts.
Subject to a drug test as a condition of employment and on-going random drug testing as a condition of assignment to a safety sensitive position.
Successful completion of the New Mexico Department Of Corrections Basic Probation and Parole Officers Certification Training within twelve months of hire and annual re-certification.
Maintenance of skills in self-defense, handcuffing, baton, and chemical agents and annual re-certification.

Nice To Haves

Experience in Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) offender electronic monitoring system
Experience in Motivational Interviewing technique specific to the adult felony population
Experience in Utilizing assessment tools for supervision of adult felony offenders
