At Apple, we are committed to delivering exceptional products and services while ensuring user privacy is at the forefront of our technology. The Privacy Engineering team plays a crucial role in this mission by collaborating with various teams across the company to design architectures that minimize the exposure of user data at all levels of the technology stack. We are currently seeking an experienced engineer to join the Apple User Privacy Team, focusing on providing privacy guidance to teams working on machine learning and generative AI infrastructure. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of privacy technologies at Apple, including differential privacy and private federated learning. In this position, you will be responsible for reviewing features to identify potential privacy exposures and partnering with teams to design effective mitigations. You will conduct audits of new products to identify bugs during development and review customer data collected by engineering teams to inform decisions regarding privacy impact. A key aspect of your role will involve communicating privacy risks and potential mitigations to senior leadership, thereby influencing critical decisions. Additionally, you will guide the development of data collection systems that facilitate the training and evaluation of generative AI systems while ensuring privacy is preserved. Collaboration is essential in this role, as you will work closely with cryptographers and technical experts in Software Engineering (SWE) and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AIML) to develop our roadmap for privacy technologies. You will provide guidance to engineers and leaders on the appropriate privacy technologies to utilize when developing new features. Successful candidates will possess excellent communication skills and a strong passion for protecting user privacy. Creative problem-solving abilities, analytical thinking, and deductive reasoning skills are critical for success in this position. Given the dynamic nature of the work, the ability to learn quickly and an enthusiasm for exploring new technologies is a must.
