  • Evaluating program requirements to determine safety requirements and needed System, Software, Firmware, Hardware design assurance level.
  • Developing or approving Product Safety Program Plans, Fault Trees, Common Mode Analysis, and other related safety required documents, defining the Product Safety tasking across the program life cycle.
  • Supporting and leading safety engineering using model based systems engineering / digital engineering.
  • Coordinating with System Design teams to define and approve hazards and mitigation provisions.
  • Coordinating with Test teams to prepare test plans/procedures to support testing.
  • Preparing presentations and participate in Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings, and various working groups and safety review meetings both internal and with customers.
  • Maintaining required Safety documentation (Safety Case), establishing compliance with contractual requirements and applicable regulations.
  • Investigating Product related events with safety implications to develop appropriate corrective and preventive measures.
  • Collaborating with peers across BAE Systems Inc. in relevant working groups.
  • Minimum of a BS in Engineering, Science or equivalent Safety experience. Electrical Engineering preferred with a minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar field.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
  • Experience with MIL-STD-882, SAE ARP4754, SAE ARP4761, and Domestic/International safety regulations related to electric and hybrid automotive systems and energy storage systems.
  • Experience with development of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA), System Safety Assessment (SSA), Common Cause Analysis (CCA), Common Mode Analysis (CMA), and defining and communicating safety requirements associated with those assessments.
  • Experience with various safety critical development domestic/international regulations and standards related to aircraft.
  • Experience with Product/System Safety contractual requirements and their execution throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Experience leading disparate engineering teams to identify hazards, assess, and thoroughly mitigate associated risks encountered in various use cases throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Experience in working with disparate teams.
  • Experience with supporting safety audits.
  • Experience leading mishap prevention/investigations.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and drive resolution toward safety concerns.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, and execute programs as well as thoroughly document work for traceability.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP/ASP).
  • Experience with EASA SC MOC VTOL, EUROCAE ED-14G, FAA AC 23.1309-1E, RTCA DO-160G, RTCA DO-178B, RTCA DO-178C, RTCA DO-254, and/or RTCA DO-311A.
  • Green Belt/Black Belt Certified.
  • Subject matter expert in the Product/System Safety discipline.
  • Functional Safety Certification Program.
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Experience with both commercial and military programs.
  • Familiarity with Systems Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA).
