Come join us! This role would suit someone moving from a senior-level hands-on distributed systems role, cyber security / fraud experience preferred. You must be willing to work East Coast hours and be onsite two days per week at one of the office locations listed below. This is not a fully remote role. Available Locations: NYC, Washington DC, Austin Texas - considered if working East Coast hours. About the department Cloudflare's Engineering Team is home to some of the industry's highest-performing engineers, dedicated to building and scaling innovative software that handles a large proportion of the Internet. All of our systems run at a scale you’re unlikely to find elsewhere in the industry (80m+ requests / second) and very low latency (single figure microseconds at most) so we can offer really unique challenges and opportunities for growth in this very interesting and fast-growing area. Our teams responsible for Bots and Fraud Detection develop solutions to identify and mitigate malicious bot activities, ensuring the security and integrity of our customers’ applications. We collaborate with product and other engineering teams to implement fraud detection mechanisms and our work includes deploying cutting-edge machine learning techniques. We're very good at sharing knowledge and helping each other grow and have a real impact on the wellbeing of the internet! What you'll do Join Cloudflare's Device Fingerprinting team to tackle real-world security challenges relating to identifying abusive HTTP L7 traffic coming from people and automated bots. We capture a huge amount of metadata from traffic passing through our proxy and also from scripts running on client devices. There are fascinating data science and engineering scale problems to solve in working out which client devices are behind incoming requests in a privacy-first way, including training and deploying machine learning models. Our tech stack includes Go, Rust, Python, JavaScript, Kafka, Kubernetes, ClickHouse, PostgreSQL, and Jupyter notebooks.

Requirements

  • An expert in designing, integrating, and optimizing distributed data processing pipelines
  • Very strong hands-on coding skills in Go, Rust, Python, or other high-performance languages
  • Curiosity, empathy and strong emotional intelligence
  • Someone comfortable tackling ambiguous problems
  • Experience in constructing and managing alerting and monitoring systems for data processing pipelines
  • Exceptional abilities in systems-level debugging
  • Familiarity with advanced analytics encompassing machine learning, statistical inference, and AI

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred background or interest in Web Security and HTTP protocols
  • Knowledge and experience with columnar databases like ClickHouse
  • Experience productionizing ML models
  • Experience with cluster and configuration management systems such as Docker, Salt
  • Strong web security fundamentals
  • Previous experience in bot and fraud detection
