The Mastercard Software Builders Experience (MSBX) team is looking for a Senior Principal Software Engineer to help drive our developer experience strategy forward by consistently innovating and problem-solving. The ideal candidate is passionate about empowering software engineers, highly motivated, intellectually curious, and thrives in a collaborative environment. This role is central to enhancing the experience of Mastercard’s software builders by simplifying development workflows, improving operational tooling, and enabling faster speed to market through scalable, secure, and intuitive solutions.

Requirements

  • Fluent in AWS CDK, Azure Bicep and Terraform
  • Fluent in Java, Python or GO
  • Proven history of building open-source software
  • Experience in Building Development Portals such as Backstage, Rapid Desktop Environments, Cloud Desktops for Developers, CI/CD pipelines and test frameworks
  • AWS or Azure Professional Certification

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement tools and services that streamline software development, deployment, and operational workflows across Mastercard
  • Collaborate with engineering guilds, SIGs, and product teams to identify friction points and co-create solutions that improve the builder experience Build and maintain scalable, secure, and compliant systems that adhere to Mastercard’s architectural and engineering standards
  • Surface actionable insights within developer tools to enable data-driven decision-making and reduce cognitive overhead
  • Participate in open contribution models, reviewing and integrating community-driven enhancements to the MSBX platform
  • Drive experimentation and innovation by leveraging Mastercard’s scale while maintaining clear guardrails to protect customer trust
  • Engage in continuous learning and share knowledge through internal forums, learning sessions, and roadshows
  • Ensure all solutions are testable, observable, and auditable, supporting Mastercard’s compliance and security requirements
