About The Position

The Oil Tanker Shipping team is a critical component of the CI (Commodity Insights) Shipping Analytics and Research business line. This team is dedicated to developing and maintaining high-quality market intelligence and research flow for S&P Global Commodity Insight Freight Analytics products. We pride ourselves on delivering actionable insights that empower our clients to make informed decisions in a rapidly changing market landscape.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of market structure and dynamics in liquid bulk shipping.
  • Extensive knowledge of liquid bulk shipping market analysis, including freight demand and supply drivers.
  • Minimum of 7 years of freight and commodity market experience, with at least 3 years focused on liquid bulk market analytics.
  • Experience in physical and paper (FFA) trading is highly beneficial.
  • Robust technical/academic background in data analytics, machine learning, and economic forecasting models.
  • Exceptional numeracy and written skills, with comfort in handling large data sets.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with global teams.
  • Highly skilled in Excel and PowerPoint; experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of SQL and/or Python is preferred.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in a relevant field.

  • Experience with advanced data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI) and programming languages (SQL, Python).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and enhancement of sophisticated models and reports for Tanker Freight Research Analysts.
  • Mentor and develop junior analysts, providing guidance and support.
  • Oversee the development of the Tanker Freight Rate Forecast, ensuring alignment with methodologies established by the dry FRF team.
  • Conduct advanced data-driven analytics and comprehensive demand and supply models to influence understanding of crude oil and refined products trends.
  • Create and maintain market intelligence and research flow for S&P Global Commodity Insights Freight Analytics products.
  • Develop advanced market scenarios and actionable insights for freight markets and trade flows.
  • Drive visibility for clients into the dynamics of physical trade in liquid bulk and freight markets.
  • Provide thorough analysis and commentary on current and future trends in liquid bulk commodities and freight markets.
  • Communicate insights to clients through reports, presentations, calls, emails, and meetings.
  • Oversee the training and development of Research Analysts on the FRF Tanker Project.
  • Conduct original research and data mining to identify marketable findings.
  • Establish and document research processes to create internal standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate with Sales teams to analyze reports and communicate insights to customers.
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
