The Effector RF Design Team at Raytheon is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Principal Engineer to join our innovative and collaborative team in Tucson, AZ. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead the development of a guidance system for a new missile development program that incorporates an advanced RF/Radar subsystem. The selected candidate will lead a cross-functional and cross-discipline team of engineers through the design cycle for development and integration.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations
  • Ten years of experience in one or more of the following areas: RF Sensor/Radar design, integration, and/or production support
  • Experience interacting across engineering disciplines (e.g. Systems, Mechanical, SW, Algorithms, etc.) to define subsystem requirements and evaluate performance
  • Experience in RF/electrical sub-systems, systems engineering, requirement development, requirement validation, Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) Design, Test Integration, and/or Supplier Management
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in mathematics, physics, or related engineering fields.
  • Familiarity with missiles or similar radar systems.
  • Experience as a technical leader on complex subsystems during Engineering, Manufacturing, and Development (EMD) phases.
  • Strong systems engineering mindset with analytical and multidisciplinary skills.
  • Background in designing and troubleshooting electrical subsystems (e.g., RF sensors, antennas, analog/digital circuit cards, configurable logic).
  • Experience in project leadership, systems engineering, and architecture.
  • Proven collaboration and networking skills across design, production, program leadership, and manufacturing teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage with peers, suppliers, management, and customers.
  • Experience balancing engineering process discipline with innovation for rapid development.
  • Practical experience across all product lifecycle phases, including proposal development through transition to production.
  • Experience with conceptual designs, trade studies, and system integration.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the technical integrity of the Guidance Section (GS), including the development, validation, and integration of the Technical Data Package (TDP).
  • Provide technical oversight for GS subsystem and component requirements, design, testing, and performance.
  • Collaborate with and provide technical support to critical suppliers to ensure performance goals are met.
  • Manage technical risks associated with the Guidance Section to ensure program success.
  • Partner with the systems engineering team to capture accurate GS and component-level requirements.
  • Work closely with the integration and test team to plan and execute GS acceptance and verification testing.
  • Collaborate with the algorithm and signal processing team to align hardware capabilities with their requirements while clarifying hardware limitations.
  • Coordinate with other GS teams and subject matter experts (SMEs) on related activities and shared program goals.
  • Provide technical oversight and support for failure investigations related to GS components or subsystems.
  • Lead and participate in component-level design and test reviews to ensure technical rigor.
  • Work directly with suppliers and customers to procure, validate, and demonstrate hardware capabilities.
  • Lead teams effectively by understanding team dynamics, leveraging strengths, and addressing skill gaps.
  • Deliver high-quality results while consistently meeting or exceeding cost, schedule, and performance objectives.
  • Communicate task status on complex technical issues and influence strategic planning across multiple teams, programs, and leadership levels, including customers.
  • Proactively identify and take ownership of roles or tasks necessary to ensure the success of the business unit.
  • Actively participate in RTX's mentoring culture by serving as both a mentor and a mentee to foster professional growth.
