Organization 05253, Advanced CMOS Products and Designs, is looking for an early-career Analog Mixed Signal IC Design Electronics Engineer to join our team focused on developing advanced CMOS chips. The chosen candidate will be responsible for developing, architecting, designing, and leading the creation of highly complex electronic microsystems, primarily integrated circuits, that contribute to Sandia's national security mission. These microsystems encompass focal-plane arrays and Quantum computers.

  • Design, assess, and test integrated circuits for sensor microsystems.
  • Convert customer requirements into high-level system architectures.
  • Utilize a comprehensive understanding of various microsystems technologies (such as CMOS, MEMS, photonics) and heterogeneous integration techniques to advance the development of highly optimized, heterogeneously integrated microsystems.
  • Contribute to research initiatives focused on innovative signal and data processing circuit design techniques relevant to focal-plane arrays (e.g., neuromorphic circuit architectures), radiation detectors, and Quantum computers.
  • Participate in research efforts related to microsystem integration, with a particular emphasis on heterogeneous integration technologies necessary for the realization of focal-plane arrays, Quantum computers, and other complex microsystems.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
  • Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement.
  • Demonstrated experience with analog and digital circuit design and analysis.
  • Hands-on experience testing and de-bugging circuitry, with clear mastery of tools such as oscilloscopes, logic/network/spectrum analyzers, function/pulse generators, etc.
  • Proven experience with design and analysis tools (e.g., Matlab and LabVIEW), analog simulation codes (e.g., LTSpice), and HDL simulation codes (e.g., ModelSim).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ph.D. in a relevant STEM field or; Master's degree in a relevant STEM field plus four (4) years' experience or; equivalent combination of relevant education and experience (BS + 8 years).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with EDA tools such as Cadence Virtuoso or equivalent, Spectre, and AMS simulations.
  • Proficiency in designing at least two types of analog and mixed-signal circuits, including operational amplifiers (Op-Amps), ADCs, DACs, PLLs, oscillators, filters, bandgaps, or voltage regulators.
  • Expertise in the requirements and design of radiation-hardened circuits, low-power systems, or deployed sensors.
  • Solid understanding of device physics and modeling.
  • Experience in writing AMS models and conducting AMS simulations.
  • Knowledge of IC layout techniques, including parasitic-aware design, matching, shielding, and minimizing noise coupling.
  • Familiarity with microsystem integration methods (e.g., bump bonding).
  • Proficient in some of the following: VHDL or Verilog languages, Python or Perl, and PCB electronics design and layout.
  • Experience in testing, diagnosing, and debugging integrated circuits.
  • Ability to innovate, ideally demonstrated through patents and/or publications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including teamwork, effective leadership, compromise, delegation, conflict resolution, and the ability to collaborate within a diverse team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, encompassing the development and delivery of presentations, proposals, reports, and documentation.
  • Generous vacation
  • Strong medical and other benefits
  • Competitive 401k
  • Learning opportunities
  • Relocation assistance
  • Amenities aimed at creating a solid work/life balance
