About The Position

The Senior/Principal Environmental Planner at Contra Costa Water District is responsible for performing complex environmental and natural resource planning and permitting activities to support capital improvement projects and the management of watershed and conservation properties. This advanced role involves project management, collaboration with various departments and external agencies, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

Requirements

• Experience with CEQA and NEPA as they relate to large water civil projects.
• Knowledge of California and Federal Endangered Species Acts.
• Experience engaging with resource agencies such as U.S. Fish and Wildlife and California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
• Familiarity with environmental permitting agencies like the Regional Water Quality Control Board and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
• Experience working with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and negotiating with developers.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the environmental review and permitting needs for large and complex capital engineering projects.
• Implement permits to support CCWD's large-scale operations and maintenance needs.
• Serve as the main contact and liaison between CCWD and various resource and environmental permitting agencies.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal clients in the O&M, Engineering, Real Property, and Water Resources divisions.
