Senior Principal – Investigation and Remediation  Buffalo, NY Position Overview The Senior Principal in the Investigation and Remediation Department is responsible for acquisition of new business, management of personnel and projects, and mentoring technical staff.  Project types may include private and public environmental due diligence, redevelopment and remediation, hazardous building materials, SEQR reviews, and other projects.

Requirements

  • 20+ years of environmental work experience, with a focus in investigation and remediation.
  • Experience in public, non-profit, and/or private environmental work.
  • Experience managing and organizing staff and projects.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or acceptable advanced learning in environmental science or engineering.
  • Aptitude and focus on operations/project management tools and systems.
  • Commitment to high quality project delivery and have a vision for growth.
  • Strong project management, technical writing, communication, problem-solving, and business development skills.

  • Leadership training through industry organization preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee large, complex environmental investigations, remediation projects, ecological studies, or other projects.
  • Generate new work, manage client relationships, and help grow practice areas.
  • Maintain responsibility for the performance of staff members that will consist of, but not be limited to engineers, scientists, and technicians.
  • Guide and train junior staff and other managers.
  • Motivate the team through commitment, strategy and personal connection.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other groups at C&S.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and subconsultants of C&S.
  • Communicate regularly with leadership and the team through meetings and other means.
  • Maintain a focus on staff learning, career development and diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Recruit new staff members.
  • Uphold and model the core values of C&S.
  • Provide vision for and support implementation and consistent use of standards.
  • Lead successful sales/scoping efforts.
  • Engage with internal teammates to develop integrated project opportunities.
  • Provide direction to the marketing and technical team regarding go/no-go decisions and proposal preparation.
  • Act as successful seller/doer.
  • Serve as project manager or project principal on select projects.
  • Prepare proposals, review technical reports, and provide senior-level sign-off.
  • Maintain satisfactory project financial performance.
  • Manage project budgets, prepare scopes, schedules, and financial reports.
  • Maintain utilization metrics.
  • Understand and leverage financial management systems.
  • Review subcontractor invoices in a timely manner; invoice projects on time; work closely with accounting on outstanding accounts receivable; minimize write-offs; and maximize efficiency revenue.
