About The Position

Job Summary: The Electrification System (Hardware) Technical Lead will provide direction for the development of innovative electrification system hardware solutions. This role will oversee the design, development, and testing of targeted hardware components and systems, ensuring they meet performance, reliability, and cost targets. Requires good understanding of eAxle systems and Generator systems, Inverters, MGs and related hardware designs and development capabilities. Requires broad knowledge of xEV systems and vehicles related to battery packs, battery charging system (OBC etc.), vehicle level energy management and interactions between them. Able to understand design trade-offs while considering different design choices. Responsibilities: Design and Development: Oversee the design, development, and testing of components and systems such as EAxle / Generator systems, including Motor generator, inverter, gearbox, Power electronics and related components. Knowledge of different EV system interactions with each other such as battery pack, charging (OBC / DC-DC) vehicle energy management systems. Exploring new design concepts, materials, and manufacturing techniques to address emerging challenges and improve EAxle / REEV generator system performance. System Integration: Ensure seamless integration of EAxle / REEV generator components into the overall vehicle architecture. Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members. Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve technical challenges. Applying problem-solving methodologies, such as root cause analysis, design of experiments, and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), to identify and resolve technical issues. Facilitate future xEV system / component level planning while understanding vehicle level trade-offs such as battery range, cost of vehicle, charging speed etc. Addressing complex technical issues related to EAxle / REEV generator system design, integration, and performance, such as thermal management, efficiency optimization, and noise reduction. Ensuring compatibility between EAxle / REEV generator system components and other vehicle systems, including power electronics, battery management systems, and drivetrain components. Understand cost / design tradeoffs Identifying and addressing bottlenecks in EAxle / REEV generator system performance to improve efficiency, power output, and range. Developing strategies to reduce the cost of EAxle components and manufacturing processes without compromising performance or reliability. Coordinate with engineers on component design, integration, and testing with NA and global teams. Present technical updates to NA leadership team to receive active feedback and drive technical consensus on product related decisions. Discuss project timelines, resources, and risks with project managers. Collaborate with teams developing cooling, mechanical interfaces and other located globally. Interact with OEM customers and Tier 1 suppliers as needed. Discuss component specifications, quality, and delivery timelines. Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and regulations. Travel to global affiliates, customer/supplier/conferences to engage in face-to-face communication as necessary (Including global travel).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related area required.
  • 10+ years of relevant or related experience in electrical hardware systems is required.
  • Deep understanding of mechanical & electrical engineering, power electronics, motor, and mechanical systems, as well as knowledge of EAxle components and their interactions.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex technical challenges related to EAxle system design, integration, and performance.
  • Proficiency in designing and developing EAxle systems, including component selection, system integration, and testing.
  • Ability to manage EAxle / generator development projects effectively, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members, stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Electrification System Architecture Expertise: Strong knowledge of electrified powertrain systems including power electronics, high-voltage architectures, and energy management systems.
  • System Integration Leadership: Ability to integrate electrical, mechanical, thermal, EMC/EMI, and functional safety requirements across complex system architectures.
  • Advanced Problem Solving: Capability to analyze and resolve complex technical challenges involving multiple engineering disciplines and evolving requirements.
  • Technical Leadership and Influence: Ability to lead cross-functional engineering efforts and influence technical direction without formal supervisory authority.
  • Effective Technical Communication: Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to engineering teams, management, customers, and suppliers.
