The Radar Digital Products (RDP) Department in the Hardware Engineering Directorate at Raytheon is seeking an experienced Senior Principal Electrical Engineer in the development and implementation of FPGA based designs for control and/or signal processing radar applications. The individual will be required to provide development support throughout product lifecycle, from initial concept to acceptance delivery to maintenance. This position can be for the Tewksbury, MA location or the Marlborough, MA location.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience designing FPGAs using VHDL/Verilog
  • Experience with digital design and VHDL or Verilog coding
  • Experience designing and integrating with AMD/Xilinx, Intel/Altera or Actel/Microsemi/Microchip FPGAs
  • Experience using synthesis tools: Synplify, Xilinx Vivado, or Intel Quartus Pro
  • Experience using RTL simulation tools such as Questasim

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Configuration Management principles, environments and tools
  • Working knowledge in common computer hardware interface and data protocols such as RS-422, USB, PCIe, etc.
  • Experience in AMD/Xilinx MPSOC, RFSOC, Ultrascale+, Versal
  • Experience in Intel programmable devices Stratix X, Agilex
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces such as GbE, DDR, JESD, PCIE
  • Experience with Timing Closure and utilizing Chipscope / Signal Tap
  • Experience and knowledge developing requirements for FPGA products
  • Experience with RADAR system hardware
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces
  • Experience working in teams and possess the ability to multi-task
  • Understanding of computer architecture and computer hardware optimization techniques
  • Proficiency in Linux
  • Working knowledge in the integration of software drivers for the operation of computer hardware interfaces a plus.
  • Working knowledge of C/C++ and/or in computer scripting language such as Shell/Perl/Python a plus
  • Working knowledge/course work of signal & image processing, digital communications and/or control theories
  • Interest and capability in task and team leadership, including leading teams of 2 to 5 engineers on a common task or group of tasks; managing to a schedule and budget; keeping internal customers advised of status and participating in strategic decisions on planning and execution; estimating and planning new work; a desire to advance along a team leadership track
  • Willingness to support occasional domestic travel and potential international travel
  • Active DoD security clearance

Responsibilities

  • Own or contribute to the successful completion of FPGA-based designs, on time and on budget
  • Work with a team to determine the technical approach or solution to meet system level requirements
  • May lead small teams and mentor junior engineers
  • Demonstrate self-motivation, with little supervision required
  • Design and deliver production quality FPGA releases from initial proof of concept up to production
  • Work cooperatively with systems, hardware, software engineers, and program management to ensure product success.
  • Demonstrate the ability to architect FPGA-based systems to determine parts, interfaces, and Concept of Operations (CONOPS)
  • Translate system level requirements into FPGA requirements
  • Design and code in VHDL for reliability and maintainability
  • Verify designs utilizing self-checking techniques with directed and constrained random tests, while tracking functional and code coverage
  • Create complete documentation including requirements, verification plan, and user’s guides
  • Support internal and external technical reviews
