About The Position

We are seeking a subject matter expert in data center passive optical infrastructure and cabling to join our AI Networking team. This role requires a deep understanding of data center infrastructure build and operations, passive panel and optical interconnects, optical splice enclosures, fiber optic cabling systems, and network design principles. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust DC passive optical infrastructure and fiber optic cabling solutions that support critical AI cloud data center operations. #LI-VC7

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 10+years proven experience in architecture, design and implementation of high-speed copper and fiber optic cabling systems and passive optical infrastructure in data centers engineering/build/scale/operations.
  • Experience with structural and high dense cabling management and routing for intra rack, intra data center and inter-data centers on campus.
  • Strong understanding of fiber optic technologies, including single-mode and multi-mode fibers, connectors, and transceivers, design standards, regulations spanning geographic regions
  • Proficiency in hands-on fiber optic cables/connectors testing and certification (load/tension, splicing, optical power, insertion loss, return loss, OTDR etc.).
  • Knowledge of network protocols and standards (e.g., Ethernet, IP) is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications in cabling (RCDD) and fiber optic technologies e.g., Certified Fiber Optic Designer (CFOD) are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, architecture, and design: Develop comprehensive fiber optic cabling architecture, designs, standards, including cable pathways, fiber counts, patch panels, optical splice enclosures, and connector types.
  • Create detailed fiber optic cable plant documentation, including installation and operational procedures/guides, as-built drawings, and labeling standards.
  • Collaborate with network engineers and data center architects to ensure seamless integration of fiber optic infrastructure for optimum compute/networking/storage racks/devices.
  • Implementation and Installation: Oversee the installation of fiber optic cables, connectors, and other related equipment.
  • Perform fiber optic testing and certification to ensure network performance and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve fiber optic cabling issues in production with root cause analysis.
  • Train other engineers, technicians and low voltage vendors (LVV) personnel as needed.
  • Maintenance and Optimization: Develop and implement a proactive maintenance plan for the fiber optic infrastructure.
  • Monitor network performance, identify potential issues and develop mitigation/solutions.
  • Keep up with the latest fiber optic panels, cables, connector technologies and industry standards.
  • Vendor Management: Manage relationships with fiber optic cables/panels and equipment vendors.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals and select the best solutions (cost/quality/performance) for high availability data center operations.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., TIA-568, TIA-942) and regulatory requirements.
