About The Position

The Senior Project Manager of Preconstruction, BESS is responsible for leading the preconstruction process for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) opportunities, from initial client engagement through contract execution. This role includes developing proposal strategies, assembling project teams from Quanta Operating Companies and external partners, and ensuring alignment with project objectives. Typical project sizes range from 5 MW to 200 MW.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Science/Management, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience or a combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a BESS preconstruction role with an EPC, IPP, developer, or utility.
  • Utility-scale BESS subject matter expertise.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage cross-functional teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Travel Required: Yes
  • Percentage of Time: Up to 40%

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate internal and external resources to lead bid/no-bid decisions.
  • Define project requirements, deliverables, and timelines; coordinate with internal teams and external partners to deliver compliant, cost-competitive proposals.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to ensure strong relationships and clear communication throughout the proposal development process.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of project scope and collaborate with supply chain and estimating teams to eliminate scope gaps or overlaps.
  • Provide technical guidance, subject matter expertise, and regulatory insight to ensure compliance with design and construction requirements and client expectations.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with design partners.
  • Develop and execute strategies to mitigate risk and maximize profitability.
  • Review and approve the basis of estimate, including assumptions, inclusions, exclusions, and qualifications.
  • Collaborate with legal teams to evaluate technical and commercial risks during contract negotiations and execution.
  • Monitor industry trends, market conditions, and customer drivers.
  • Support deal structuring and negotiate pricing internally and externally using business-value analysis.
  • Manage responses to BESS-related RFIs.
  • Collaborate with commercial excellence and other departments to ensure full representation of organizational capabilities, including leveraging offerings from other Quanta companies.
  • Gather post-award feedback from project teams and clients to identify and share best practices with internal and external partners.
  • Ensure adherence to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned.
